Welcome back to Latticed Learning!  This year, we're continuing to learn while we play - repeating many of our favorites from last year while adding in all sorts of new activities as well.

This day's post is devoted to our weekly Bible stories - some weeks have more activities than others, but each lesson will help your little one grow closer to God!

Read the Bible

Pages 247-250 in this Bible and 161-167 in this one

Read a Little More

I found a couple of books related to this week's story that look worthwhile:

Shadrach, Meshach, Abednego

Sing Some Songs

Nothing beats this song off an LP from my childhood:

The Bill Gaither Trio

Or you could try singing this one, with body movements.

Watch Some Videos

I found a couple of short videos for this week's lesson:

We watched this cute movie to go along with the fiery furnace story and then found three short videos:

The Holy Tales:

TMC Youth:

Share Faith Kids:

Play and Create

We did a few things to learn more about the fiery furnace:

I first printed out two sets of these male Bible stick puppets.

Gv cut out one set (4 men) and stuck them on a sheet of yellow paper using double-sided tape.

Then she painted over the page with red and orange paint.

After it all dried, we removed the men and saw the four figures in the flames:

We took the other set of puppets, cut them out, then colored in all but one (that's the angel).  We glued them all to craft sticks to use in our fiery furnace paper bag theater.

Glue the white angel down with the black lines facing the stick.
I just cut out a big circle on one side of the bag and then Gv glued wads of red, orange and yellow tissue paper along the bottom inside of the hole and along the top.

Then she could use the puppets to re-enact the story on her own:

I loved this idea, but we changed it up just a bit:

I still wrote the words on the wall in white crayon...

But then Gv & I rubbed over it all with marker, not paint.

We used the one-page story found here for our story reminder cards.

Color in the inside of a furnace with plenty of flames on a paper plate and then glue on the printout of the friends.

Color in furnace doors on a second paper plate, then cut the plate in half vertically down the middle. Punch holes in the bottom center corners and attach brads.

This candle was a huge hit:

Repurpose an old jar by stuffing some orange and yellow tissue paper along the inside perimeter.

Cut out 3 figures, paper-doll style, out of black construction paper and shove them against one side of the jar.

Place a battery-operated candle inside and then catch a little of Nebuchadnezzer's point of view.

Finally, we decorated some wooden "peg people" to be Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego and then wrapped them in tissue paper "fire."

Gv really enjoyed helping to create this one.

She even decided that these guys needed a mom to fix them some food, shown here on the left.
