Songs to Get You into the Spirit of the Season
Bebe and Cece Winans are keeping it all in the family on this album. First Christmas includes both covers of classic songs as well as new material - this brother-sister duo will be sure to add a little gospel flavor to your holiday playlist!
Be sure to check out Oooh Child - it's my favorite song on this album.
An Activity to Add to the Jolly Atmosphere
Attend a live performance of The Nutcracker. Maybe you live in a city large enough to offer shows in a large auditorium full of famous dancers who are members of a renowned ballet troupe. Or maybe you live in a tiny hamlet (or don't want to shell out the mega-bucks for the big-city spectacular) and decide to attend a local ballet school's performance instead.Whatever your situation, consider including this well-known ballet in your Christmas tradition (or at the very least, watch this or this instead!)
Some Reading Sure to Garner a Great Response
While you can find several versions of this classic story, I like this version of The Nutcracker best. The beautiful illustrations and simple text follow the story of the ballet, rather than the fairy tale, which means this book is a great accompaniment to watching the dance performance in person. Thumb through this gem while listening to Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker in the background.
A Movie to Get You in a Merry Mood
Not a movie that's in our regular rotation, but one that the kids in my classroom were always talking about each year. The humor of The Santa Clause was right up their alley - do you enjoy it, too?
Faith Focus to Put You in a Festive Frame of Mind
If
you haven't downloaded them already, make sure to grab your free coordinating printables to go along with this portion of the series.
Read Genesis 12-17 and follow in the footsteps of a man who up and went when God told him to "go." Then read Hebrews 11:8-12 for a New Testament connection.Today's study also includes a prophesy fulfillment. Read Genesis 22:18 and then Matthew 1:1 and Galatians 3:16 to see how Jesus lives out Matthew 5:17 (see verse in graphic below) as a descendant of Abraham.
Add your tent sticker to the tree to serve as a reminder for today's verses.
What will you be doing to observe this fourth day of Advent? Will everything be beautiful at the ballet, or will you focus your energies elsewhere? I'd love to hear! Leave a comment or email me at lisahealy (at) outlook (dot) com.
