If you like strawberries and you like cinnamon, you'll probably like this tasty mash-up of the two!  Make everything the night before for an easy special-morning breakfast that you just have to pop into the oven to bake when you get up!

Rolls

What You Need

3/4 cup milk (I used almond)

1/3 cup softened butter

3 1/4 cups whole wheat flour

2 teaspoons yeast

1/4 cup honey

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 egg

1/4 cup water

Filling

What You Need

1 cup strawberry jam (I just used leftover sauce from these)

1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

2 cups chopped strawberries

What You Do

1.  Warm the milk in a small pot until warm, then mix the butter in until melted.  Let it cool.

2.  Combine 2 1/4 cups flour, the yeast, sugar, and salt in a bowl.

3.  Add egg and 1/4 cup of water.  Mix well, then add in the milk mixture until dough forms.

4.  Add the rest of the flour.  When dough comes together, knead until smooth.

5.  Return to bowl, cover, then let dough rest for 10 minutes.

6.  Roll out dough into a large (15x10) rectangle.  Spread the strawberry jam/sauce all over, dust with cinnamon, then cover with chopped strawberries.

Add strawberry sauce

Sprinkle your cinnamon

7.  Roll up the dough lengthwise, pinch seam to seal, and cut into 12 equal-sized rolls.

8.  Place rolls in greased baking dish.  Cover and let rise until doubled (or overnight in fridge for a make-ahead breakfast).

9.  Bake at 375 degrees for 30 minutes or until golden brown.

Icing (or you could drizzle a little more strawberry sauce on them, which we preferred)

What You Need

1/2 cup powdered sugar

1/4 teaspoon cinnamon

1-2 Tablespoons milk

What You Do

1.  Mix the sugar, cinnamon, and 1 Tablespoon of milk.  Add more milk to achieve desired consistency, then drizzle over warm rolls.

So, are you a breakfast roll purist, or do you prefer something more creative?  We enjoyed these, but you could easily omit the cinnamon, if you prefer.  I'd love to hear about your preference - comment here or email me at lisahealy (at) outlook (dot) com.
