Songs to Get You into the Spirit of the Season
This album features great pop artists from the 80s like Bruce Springsteen, U2, Madonna and Sting. It's a peppy compilation that will get your holiday season off to a rocking start. My particular favorite cuts are U2's Christmas and Madonna's Santa Baby. Which songs do you like best?
An Activity to Add to the Jolly Atmosphere
As a family, make a list of 24 things to do for others over the upcoming days. Decide whether you'd prefer to do one activity a day, or several all at once (like 4-6 every weekend). Find some great inspiration to get your thoughtful juices flowing at these sites:
- The Kindness Kiddos - An Elf on the Shelf alternative focused on performing random acts of kindness towards others.
- Family Service Exchange and 24 Acts of Service - I love how Kelly includes so many photos of her children engaging in these different activities!
- RACK (Random Acts of Christmas Kindness) - This reminds me of the "You've been Boo'd activity, but better.
- Light 'Em Up - An incredible program designed to get families lighting up the community with kindness.
Some Reading Sure to Garner a Great Response
Back when I was in the classroom, this book lent itself to an entire day's-worth of activities in the midst of finishing up testing for the quarter and my attempts to contain 20-plus 7- and 8-year-olds from bursting out of their skin with excitement over the upcoming break from school. It's a favorite of many and reading it is a wonderful way to kick off this time of year.
A Movie to Get You in a Merry Mood
You can't read the book without watching the movie, you know. Although watching this movie isn't required for us here at home, it was always a must-see for my roomful of second graders and is bound to join our rotation as Gv gets a little older.

Faith Focus to Put You in a Festive Frame of Mind
I've created a set of printables for you to use as we go through this series! Think of them as a type of Advent calendar (although you'll keep using them throughout all 12 days of Christmas, too). There are two pages of trees showing each day's verses and then one page of ornaments/gifts to place on the tree pages after you read each day's verses.
Print the tree pages onto card stock (you could even laminate them, if you're fancy that way) and then print the ornament page onto sticker paper . If you don't want to use sticker paper, you could just print the page on card stock and use tape or glue to add the ornaments to the trees.
But the sticker paper is so easy.

Add your Earth sticker to the tree to serve as a reminder for today's verses.
