Songs to Get You into the Spirit of the Season

Are you a Downtown Abbey fan?  I just discovered this soothing 2-CD set that includes the show's theme song along with mostly choral versions of traditional carols (some quite uncommon, which I love) that evoke daydreams about life with the Crawleys.  Christmas at Downtown Abbey would make a wonderful addition to a themed gift basket (including DVDs and perhaps some teas and biscuits) as well as be the perfect accompaniment to a formal Christmas meal.  Out of the forty-five tracks included on this album, my favorite isn't even a song (although I do love both versions of the theme song), but a recitation of 'Twas the Night Before Christmas by Mr. Carson (Jim Carter).

Some Reading Sure to Garner a Great Response

This gentle story is one of our favorites and I was excited when it provided the script for my niece's recent Christmas play at her preschool (cutest little Mary ever), because the words were already familiar to Gv.  This is the Stable includes appealing artwork, rhyming verse, and a sweet storyline focusing on Jesus' birth.

Day 31 - The Holy Family

Read Luke 2:39-52 for a glimpse into The Holy Family's life, then read Jeremiah 31:31 and Matthew 26:28 to see how Jesus lives out Matthew 5:17 (see verse in graphic below) as Mediator of the New Covenant.

Add your sixth gift under the tree to serve as a reminder for today's verses.

What will you be doing to observe this sixth day of Christmas?  Will you ponder what life was like for The Holy Family?  I'd love to hear!  Leave a comment or email me at lisahealy (at) outlook (dot) com.
