It's time for another round of 5 After 5!  In case you missed it, last week's list was 5 of your favorite literary characters and if you're new to this series, you can read more about it here.

Today I've got my list of 5 to share, as well as next week's topic for you to stew about over the upcoming days.

And this series is now a link party, so be sure to scroll down and join in all the fun with us this week!

List 5 hits of the 80's that you love

Since I remember things like the debut of MTV (even though we didn't have cable, so I had to wait until I was at a friend's sleepover to see it, but then I was terrified of both Duran Duran's "Hungry Like a Wolf" and Michael Jackson's "Thriller," so I didn't sleep for weeks), you can imagine that I'm pretty attached to the music of the 80's.

It turned out to be almost impossible to whittle down the list of 80's songs on the "My Top Rated" ipod playlist to a measly five, so I just gave up and started thinking about which bands or artists I pretty much prefer from that decade.

Still difficult, but I managed to do it:

1.  Amy Grant

I pretty much played this LP every day and still love a zillion of her songs.  You see that pose she's got on the album cover?  Yeah, that was me, bopping along in my bedroom, wishing my hair could be as cool and curly as hers.

This album was a close second - it was definitely one of the best for belting out tunes at the top of my lungs:

2. Madonna

This LP got a lot of play, too - but only this album of hers, because then Madonna started getting all weird.

As a side note (and to do a bit more cheating), this LP was also constantly on the record player, but I'm sure no one's heard of them before, since I got to know them when they were the music directors for my church's youth camp.

And, to cheat even further, here were my three favorite albums on cassette:

And my three favorite 45's:

*(I Can't Wait)
(Take Me Home Tonight)
(Mad About You)

I'll also say that I don't really listen to any of these selections any more, so that means I get to list one more that I still do love, which will be my true #2, Hall & Oates:

They're actually making a tour stop within driving distance of us and G and I would love to go, but unfortunately the bazillion-dollar tickets (which they might as well be, since anything over $10 is pretty much the same as a bazillion dollars to us) mean that we'll have to miss out.

3.  Michael Jackson

I may have tossed Madonna aside when she got all weird, but pretty much no matter what he did, I still loved the music of Michael.

Well, at least until through this album:

I don't really like anything he did after that.

4.  Journey

Ah, Journey.  Many a prom theme song revolved around this group and I still have a long list of their hits on my "favorites" playlist today.

Because of this, you can bet I really loved it when this happened a few years ago:

5.  The Police

This collection of all of their music takes me on a trip every time I listen to it.

No, not that kind of trip.

A trip down memory lane.

That's because almost every song (yes, even the little-known ones) transports me back to some previous moment in time.

Every Breath You Take puts me behind the library counter, where a co-worker played it because a library patron had been stalking me (don't worry, the stalking was of an innocent sort!)

Message in a Bottle puts me in the car with my cousin, driving to Naples for a day of beachy fun.

De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da has me blasting the air and whipping my head from side to side, trying to stay awake in the car while making a drive back to college in the wee hours of a Monday morning after spending the weekend at home.

I could go on...

For next week:

List 5 children's books you love

Even though I already wrote a similar post to this a few months ago, when my linky buddies made the request for this topic, I knew I could take it a different direction and come up with a new list.

I do like myself a good book, after all. {wink}

And now, here's this week's link party!  Two other fabulous bloggers have teamed up with me to create lists of five each week and we hope that you'll join us, too!

That's right, every post will be read, pinned and tweeted!

Every Saturday, just stop by one of our three blogs to add your own list of five, then pop over and read as many other posts as you're able to each week - treat it like a true party and really mix it up and mingle with our fun little community!

The rules are simple:  just write your own list following the prompt each week (feel free to interpret it loosely - or in a unique way!), follow each of the three hosts on the social media channel of your choice, and then get into the spirit of the party by grabbing your favorite beverage or snack and reading the lists of the other party-goers.
