A Cute Little Quiet Book That's Perfect for Church!

You might remember the awesome Make-Your-Own-Jesse-Tree that I raved about just before Christmas.

Gv and I had loads of fun creating these ornaments out of construction paper last year, but I'm excited to make a more permanent felt version with her this coming holiday season!

How do I know we'll be doing this?  Because of what we've been working on these past few days...

It all started when my bloggy pal Jen from Faith and Fabric shared her latest project with me.

Turns out, she's been working on a new quiet book for little ones that focuses on the miracles of Jesus!

Cursing the Fig Tree - buttoning practice

This came at the perfect time for us, because some of our recent Latticed Learning weeks have been centered around Jesus's miracles, too!

(We began with His first miracles in Week 26, explored another one during Week 28, and then finished them up on Week 29.)

I'd been wanting to make a quiet book for Gv for a while - I felt like it would be the perfect thing to bring with us to church every week - it would remain a novel toy if she only played with it once every seven days and, most importantly, it would be something to keep her quiet.

Sure, hearing the congregation chuckle when she exclaims, "Look, Mommy, there's Jesus!" in the middle of a prayer is kind of cute, but my face would spend a lot less time in various shades of red if I had something to keep her interest throughout our visit.

That's why I'm just so tickled at the subject matter of this quiet book - what could be more perfect for toting along to church than a book about Jesus.

Buttoning on the leaves

Just like before, Jen provides all sorts of options for you to use to complete this project - she's more concerned about making sure you find the method that's right for you and your child than having her idea cloned exactly.

I love that flexibility.

All buttoned up!  I didn't have any brown felt on hand, so I just used orange for the tree and I think it looks great!  Gv chose a variety of buttons and I can't believe it, but it took me a mere fifteen minutes to make this page!  I never would have dreamed that sewing a quiet book was this easy!

Check out this short video to see a complete run-down of this adorable project:

Of course, the minute I heard all about this book, I begged calmly asked Jen if I could have one so that Gv and I could share it with you here.  You can grab your own copy for just $6 (but hurry - the price will jump up soon!)

Have you ever made a quiet book?  If so, was it more or less work than you'd anticipated?  I'd love to hear!  Either leave a comment below or email me at lisahealy (at) outlook (dot) com.
