The Lord's Prayer is the first prayer Gv learned - in fact, it's one of the first things she learned, period.

Last year, I created this little printable to hang in her room as a cute reminder of all the words - and even though she's known the prayer for some time now, this book was a big hit:

The Lord's Prayer book by Rick Warren, Illustrated by Richard Jesse Watson

When The Lord's Prayer board book first arrived, we flipped through all the pages just reading the Lord's Prayer portion, which is integrated with beautiful illustrations.

You know I loved this page - adorned with a gorgeous rainbow!

We then spent the next several days going through the book again, but this time we just focused on one open page a day.

The prayer is broken down into eleven segments with a little blurb by Rick Warren expanding on that section and including a short prayer for each day.  This turns the book into a mini-devotional that is perfect for even the youngest member of your family.

The words to the prayer are woven into the illustration. The portion on the right includes a brief commentary by Rick Warren for that prayer segment and then a concise, relevant prayer at the bottom.

I love how not only does this book help your little one learn such an important prayer, but by breaking it down into such small segments, it's actually teaching your child how to pray at the same time.

We requested the board version of this book because even though Gv is well past the board book stage by now, I knew this title would be one we'd hold onto forever and thus wanted it to be a more substantial addition to our home library.  The size is a bit larger than most board books, making it unique in more ways than just the subject.

However, this book is also available as a picture book, so you have the option of choosing the format that's best for you.

I highly recommend this book for any family wishing to introduce children to this special prayer.  The way it breaks the length up into segments helps wee ones with memorizing the words and the gorgeous illustrations are thought-provoking and will surely prompt plenty of deep discussions.

Rick Warren's thoughtful insights for each portion of the prayer provide just enough elaboration to bring the truth alive in a way that's easy for little ones to understand and the short, bite-sized prayers are the perfect beginnings to what will hopefully be a lifetime of little chats with God.

You can pre-order your own copy of this book now - choose the board book like we did or opt for the hardcover version here!

  1. I have been looking for a bookin like this for my grandchildren (4,6,10,11) who have been separated from their father for four months. He is overseas. Our daughter is going through a mental crisis and has cut off all communication with us due to her sudden erratic behavior. I am hoping that this book can bring some hope to my grandchildren in their darkest hours of their childhoods. Sincere regards, Cynthia Quintanilla AKA Nonni
