5 After 5, Favorite Podcasts

It's time change weekend!  What are you planning to do with your extra hour?  Maybe you could spend it listening to a podcast - share your favorites here at this week's edition of 5 After 5!

Some of the links on this site are affiliate links. This means if you click on a link and purchase something, I'll receive a small affiliate commission at no cost to you. Thanks so much for supporting my efforts with this blog!

It's time for another round of 5 After 5!  In case you missed it, last week's list was 5 of the cleverest Halloween costumes and if you're new to this series, you can read more about it here - then catch up on all the old editions here.

Today I've got my list of 5 to share, as well as next week's topic for you to stew about over the upcoming days.

And this series is a link party, so be sure to scroll down and join in all the fun with us this week!

List 5 of your favorite podcasts

Even though I'm not really a podcast kind of gal, I have five that I do enjoy listening to whenever I have the chance:

1.  Car Talk

You don't have to work at Dewey, Cheetham and Howe or even be interested in cars to enjoy this show.

Click and Clack may have retired, but you can still listen to this fun podcast anytime you want.  Simply send in one rear fender for a 1963 Dodge Dart convertible to Harvard Square, Our Fair City...

But really, although you can learn what to do when encountering all sorts of car issues from these guys, the true draw is the crazy comedy they bring (And that laugh - remember when Bert said some people "blast" in this song from Mary Poppins?  He had to be a listener of this show!) along with fun puzzlers each week.

There's even a book that's just as fun to read as it is to listen to them!

2.  Wait Wait...Don't Tell Me!

I promise not every choice on this list will be from NPR, but this is my other absolute favorite podcast to listen to.

Episodes of this and Car Talk got me through my hike across Scotland years ago and I still load them up on my ipod constantly.

This current-events show will not only keep you up-to-date with what's happening in the world today, but provide plenty of fun with its quiz-show style from an ever-changing panel of comedians.

3.  Rick Steves

I've traipsed across many a cobblestoned street listening to these podcasts and audio tours - they don't completely replace a guidebook, but it is nice sometimes to be able to sit and watch the world go by from the window of a train while learning about your destination at the same time!

There are so many new recordings added - just looking at them all has me itching to go somewhere!

4.  Diana Gabaldon

I haven't listened to these in several years, but I enjoyed them so much when I did that I still have them saved on my ipod to revisit later.

If you love Outlander, then you'll probably enjoy them, as well.

Okay, so half the time, I'm just listening to these because I miss hearing my friend's voice and her Alabama twang usually perks me right up, but she shares some really great stuff on these things, too.

If you homeschool, you probably already have one of these three shows on your playlist, but if not, you should definitely go check them out!

For next week:

List 5 side dishes you have to have, or it's not Thanksgiving

I've never actually been a huge Thanksgiving-food person, but with all the ridiculous amount of food my family brings to the gathering, there are still some dishes I have to have.

I can't wait to see which must-haves make it to your table!

And now, here's this week's link party!  Two other fabulous bloggers have teamed up with me to create lists of five each week and we hope that you'll join us, too!

That's right, every post will be read, pinned and tweeted!

Every Saturday, just stop by one of our three blogs to add your own list of five, then pop over and read as many other posts as you're able to each week - treat it like a true party and really mix it up and mingle with our fun little community!

The rules are simple:  just write your own list following the prompt each week (feel free to interpret it loosely - or in a unique way!), follow each of the three hosts on the social media channel of your choice, and then get into the spirit of the party by grabbing your favorite beverage or snack and reading the lists of the other party-goers.

Thanks, Angie! So happy you stopped by to say hey!
I've never been a regular podcast listener but I'm thinking of giving it a whirl - especially for commuting, etc. :)

I think I definitely would listen to them more if I were still commuting - especially if I lived somewhere with public transportation! You'll have to let me know if you discover anything amazing when you start listening, Jess!
Car Talk is one of my faves! Thanks for sharing at Funtastic Friday!

Yay for another Car Talk fan! So good to see you here, Angie!
Hi Lisa,
I rarely listen to podcasts. I realize I need to learn more so I can blog about them.
Thank you for bringing your post to the Blogger's Pit Stop last week.

It's funny, because it seems like everybody around me in person is SO into podcasts, so I thought I was the only one who didn't often listen to them, but after this post, it sounds like there are more of us than I thought! If you find any fantastic ones, let me know - and thanks for stopping to say hey today, Janice!
