5 After 5, Christmas Goodie Edition

We are definitely in full-swing Christmas mode around here, but I usually save my baking until we get a little closer to the big day.

I may not make it that far  this year, though, because I'm already craving the goodies listed here!

It's time for another round of 5 After 5!  In case you missed it, last week's list was everyday chores and if you're new to this series, you can read more about it here - then catch up on all the old editions here.

Today I've got my list of 5 to share, as well as next week's topic for you to stew about over the upcoming days.

And this series is a link party, so be sure to scroll down and join in all the fun with us this week!

List 5 of your favorite Christmas cookies or treats

I have fond memories of Christmas-cookie baking days with my mom and grandma when I was growing up. We'd whip up our standard sugar cookie/frosting recipe and then go to town cutting out stars, trees, Santas, snowmen and angels.

The most fun was when we'd take the freshly baked cookies out of the oven and discover that a few angels had suddenly lost their wings, the mittens had fallen off some of the Santas, or, gasp - some of the Frosties had lost their heads!

"Calling Dr. Kildare! Calling Dr. Kildare!" we would shout - and then immediately begin patching up the affected cookie with a dab of frosting glue.

So far I've stuck to simple stars and trees with Gv, but I might just have to hunt up a more delicate cookie cutter shape this year to add this little bit of drama to our baking fun...

1.  Christmas Cookies

I actually don't know if I can handle making our family recipe again this year - it calls for several hunks of Crisco and more sugar than we've probably eaten in the past 365 days...

Oh, who am I kidding - you know I'll be doing my typical substitutions with palm shortening and honey - the question is, will these treats still be like I remember?

2.  Eggnog Everything

I love eggnog, so I typically bake up just about everything you can think of that could use eggnog as an ingredient.

Eggnog cookies, pancakes, waffles, muffins, cheesecake, tarts - the list goes on and on!

I might just share some of my favorite recipes with you in the new year, because let me tell you, I make eggnog season l-a-s-t!

3.  These peanut-butter Ritz things that my cousin's wife makes

I have no idea what these things are really called, but A knows that if she doesn't bring a batch for all of us to scarf down each year, she might not live to see the next one.

I'm pretty sure they're just two Ritz crackers with peanut butter sandwiched inside and then dipped in white chocolate and I'm sure they weren't a pain to make the first year, but now that she'd got to make like 800 of them, I can just bet she's regretting ever sharing these treats with us in the first place!

I'm currently trying to figure out if I'm allergic to peanut butter and banning it from my mouth, but any reaction I might have is worth it for these goodies!

4.  Chocolate Chip Cheese Ball

Not a cheese ball, but if you roll this up in your mind, it's kind of what this treat looks like.

If I make this again this year, I'll have to share the recipe with all of you because it's super easy and one that everyone is pretty much guaranteed to love!

In the meantime, whip up a batch of these amazing homemade graham crackers (my favorite thing to spread the cheese ball on) and you'll be ready to go.

5.  Ham Roll-Ups

First, I know this isn't something sweet, so it's probably not what you were thinking of when I said I was sharing my favorite Christmas goodies, but if you read what I said about them in my Thanksgiving Side Dish post, then you might understand why these showed up on this list, too.

OhMyGoodness, all I can say is that I've been gearing up for these for months now, so I hope my cousin makes a quintuple batch this year!

For next week:

List 5 of your favorite Christmas traditions

If you were surprised at some of my Thanksgiving traditions, then this list might have the same effect.

Come back next week to see what's on my list - I can't wait to see what's on yours!

And now, here's this week's link party!  Two other fabulous bloggers have teamed up with me to create lists of five each week and we hope that you'll join us, too!

That's right, every post will be read, pinned and tweeted!

Every Saturday, just stop by one of our three blogs to add your own list of five, then pop over and read as many other posts as you're able to each week - treat it like a true party and really mix it up and mingle with our fun little community!

The rules are simple:  just write your own list following the prompt each week (feel free to interpret it loosely - or in a unique way!), follow each of the three hosts on the social media channel of your choice, and then get into the spirit of the party by grabbing your favorite beverage or snack and reading the lists of the other party-goers.
