At last week's party, we shared some of the silliest As Seen on TV items out there.
This week, we're re-living our childhood holiday memories!
I have to say, the memory that stands out most to me from my childhood is the year I broke my arm just days before Christmas.
My parents already had my big present already and I don't remember exactly what it was, but I know it was something I wouldn't be allowed to use for a long, long time (like roller skates or a bike or something) and so they had to scramble around and find something new that I could play with.
This was way back in the dark ages, when a broken wrist meant a plaster cast up to my armpit - and I was in it (or variations of it) all the way through the summer (from Christmas!)...and back then, you weren't allowed to do anything active with a broken bone.
So now that I've gotten you all bummed out with my sad broken arm Christmas story, let me lighten the mood by sharing some of the best gifts Santa stuck under my tree over the years:
Cabbage Patch Kid
Francesca Marie! |
I didn't get one of these the very first year they came out (that was just insane craziness!), but Santa did manage to nab my Francesca a year later.
And that photo? That's her. Francesca. Soaking up the love from another little girl these days!
18-Speed Bike
I'd had a bike like this for several years:
There's nothing like a banana-seat bike! |
...but just before I left my elementaryhood behind, I asked for a real bike. I'd hoped for a ten-speed, like many of my friends had, but then Santa out-did my dreams and brought me an 18-speed bike, instead!
Roller Derby Roller Skates
I'd had metal skates that could expand with a key and fit over my shoes, a pair of tennis-shoe style skates that were just as groovy as they sound, and then these red, white, and blue Roller Derby brand beauties that I practically lived in once Santa delivered them.
I'm pretty sure this was the replacement gift for whatever wheeled-present my parents had originally gotten me that one year because I learned to twirl it left-handed as well as right.
I was never a majorette in high school, but boy, did I ever lead some parades up and down my street!
What were your favorite gifts from childhood?
Now, on to the link-up!
You'll never believe some of the gift suggestions over at yadadarcyyada this week!
I can't get the visual of a scarf made out of hair and nail clippings out of my head, which crazy idea is your favorite?
