Welcome back to Latticed Learning! This year, we're continuing to learn while we play - repeating many of our favorites from last year while adding in all sorts of new activities as well.
This day's post is devoted to our weekly Bible stories - some weeks have more activities than others, but each lesson will help your little one grow closer to God!
Read the Bible
Read a Little More
We think books are the best around here, so it's always fun to discover great new titles. I wasn't familiar with any specific books for this week's lesson, but I did find several that look really great:
The Beginner's Bible David and the Giant
Sing Some Songs
I didn't come up with many songs for this lesson, but I did come across this list of fun lyrics (scroll down to find them) and also, of course, this classic:
Watch Some Videos
We found a couple of great videos that emphasized the story of young David:
I also let Gv watch this short movie, which we got from the library.
Play and Create
We did a couple of things to learn more about young David:
First, I drew a Goliath face (that matched the one in our "green Bible") on a paper plate and taped it way up high onto the wall. I'd thought about taping it up at true giant height, but then realized Gv wouldn't be able to see it so well.
Next, I gave Gv 5 pairs of rolled-up socks to throw at him.
Many giggles ensued:
She had quite the routine for her Goliath attack - complete with a shot put-style spin before launching the sock! |
We filled a little tote bag with 5 stones from Gv's rock collection. This was followed by a long conversation about how these were just to look at, not to throw, like the socks!
We glued together 3 craft sticks (and then I wrapped the joint in duct tape, for extra durability) to make a slingshot frame and then I twisted a rubber band around the top before handing Gv 5 pom poms to shoot at various things around the house.
This one was a big hit.
Not even the Christmas tree was safe from a little girl named Gv, with her slingshot and her stone! |
I printed out these cute finger puppets so that Gv could act out the story with them:
Gv kept looking for a page with David to color in her Bible coloring book, but there wasn't one. I came across this and printed it out while we talked about how God looks at the heart and what's inside.
Then we made our own magnifying glass:
I printed this template, Gv colored everything, then we folded the heart inside some saran wrap since we didn't have any contact paper. I just taped it to the back. |
Followed by a homemade harp:
This one couldn't be simpler: glue together four craft sticks, then stretch three or so rubber bands around a parallel set and you're done. |
