Friday Frivolity - Bad New Mom Advice

It's time for this week's edition of Friday Frivolity - the blog party for all things fun, funny, hopeful & happy!

Just wait until you see what we dug up for this week's theme...

Some of the links on this site are affiliate links. This means if you click on a link and purchase something, I'll receive a small affiliate commission at no cost to you. Thanks so much for supporting my efforts with this blog!

At last week's party, we shared a list of baby items you're better off without.

This week, we're sharing some new mom advice you DON'T want to take:

This sounds like a good idea, but unless you want your home to actual resemble a pigsty or have a live-in maid/personal trainer/or second one of you, then it's pretty impractical.

Guess what? All those baby naps? That's your chance to actually clean/cook/exercise/shower/make phone calls/basically do anything you need/want to at all!

There's advice and then there's "advice."

You'll soon figure out the difference, but my advice (snort!) to anyone thinking of giving advice is this:

Don't do it.

Unless you're asked.

You're going to hear more "shoulds" and "shouldn'ts" than you ever thought possible - much of it completely conflicting with what you just heard the day before.

You know what you really should do?

What's best for your family. And just ignore the rest!

Oh, you'll still want to try to control everything - to do what you can to ensure no harm or unhappiness comes to your precious little baby.

Try your best, but just give yourself some grace.

No matter how much you try, you're not really in control.

Now, on to the link-up!

Featured Post from Last Week:

In a fun twist, since we have four hosts and co-hosts we will also have FOUR FEATURES.... but you will have to go check out the other three blogs to see if you were featured there!  ;)

The featured post for Syncopated Mama this week is........

Ridiculous Things I Have Told My Kids...That Aren't Even Remotely True

I was cracking up through this whole post, so it was easy to choose it for my feature.

I'm sure I've told plenty of these types of things to Gv, but I've really used stuff like this in the classroom - heck, our entire faculty kept up the "video cameras everywhere" charade one year when we had a string of break-ins.

(There were fake camera thingies all over to dissuade vandals, but you'd better believe we teachers kept that little trick in our back pockets for whatever else we needed - Elf on the Shelf all year!)

Now, the new stuff!

This a link-up for all things funny, fun, encouraging, hopeful, and happy.  That includes free printables, giveaways, and other fun stuff to make us SMILE and start the weekend off on the right foot.

If you're just here to have fun, skip the rules and start clickin'!

Bloggy buddies, thanks for coming to par-tay! You are welcome to link up to 3 posts, and old posts are always welcome!  To improve traffic to your site, try to link posts we might not have seen in a while... keep it fresh!  :)

There are three rules only:

We're so happy you're here! Let's have some fun!

  3. Now that I have reached the next stage of motherhood (nana-dom) I am keeping my advice to myself. Nothing given unless asked for - everyone wins that way!

  4. Love this! Motherhood was a revelation, then motherhood with a wonderful son who happens to have Autism is like riding a roller coaster on another planet - but what fun! Thanks for this, hope this weekend treats everyone kindly. Now of to visit and share some more! :)

  5. "What's best for your family. Ignore the rest." Words to live by! Of course, I would probably throw an expletive in there, but still. ;) Thanks so much for hosting!

  7. I've always said that the worst advice is the advice that is given when it was not asked for. I hate when people make judgement calls and tell you you're doing something wrong. Especially when you don't ask for their input. There is no other reason for them to do this other than they have judged you and deemed you wanting. This has to be especially hard on a new mother! We need to just smother them in love and let them find their way. I mean for goodness sakes mothers have been motherng since the beginning of time!

  8. And, if it starts with "Wellll," or "Actually," it's probably advice that doesn't warrant much credence. Cute post. And, looks like a fun linkup y'all have here. -- Thanks for sharing with #ChasingCommunity today. :) ((blessings))

  9. Oh the amount of "advice" I was given. I have learnt only give advice if you were asked for it !!

  10. Thankfully I haven't been given much unsolicited advice and I always hold my tongue when it comes to others! I believe we should instead find something good about other kids and praise them in front of their mommies cuz it's such a great pat on the back!
