Welcome back to Latticed Learning!  This year, we're continuing to learn while we play - repeating many of our favorites from last year while adding in all sorts of new activities as well.

This day's post is devoted to our weekly Bible stories - some weeks have more activities than others, but each lesson will help your little one grow closer to God!

We've really been enjoying all of these videos as we go through our weeks and volume number 7 matched up with this week's story perfectly.

This video was fun to view, too.

We also watched this and this to fill out the Esther story a bit further.

Play and Create

We did a few things to learn more about Esther:

We first printed out these finger puppets:

and then made the crown in this pack (page 3) to wear while using the puppets to re-enact the Esther story:

Gv enjoyed standing these characters up on their own more than wearing them on her fingers

We used this print-out to dress Esther for her big feast:

This seemed simple, but Gv had loads of fun cutting out all the tiny pieces (I went back and trimmed everything up) and then gluing them all down on the card.

Then she got all dolled up in a fancy dress and crown before sitting down before our own "feast":

Feast prepared by Queen Gv herself - she even put fancy tablecloths on our step-stool tables before covering them with "food!"

We continued to print out the one-page stories from this great site to cut out pictures from and hang as our story sequencing cards for the week.

I'd come across this courage activity and thought Gv would find it pretty fun to do.  I think she had more fun squeezing all the water out of the bag at the end than anything else, but she was definitely surprised to see that no water escaped when I shoved the pencils into it!

Tip: although the water stays in despite the pencil-jabbing, do this over a sink!

And then we did this adorable craft: 

I tore off a strip of foil for Gv to cut however she wanted, then she went and got yarn and googly eyes to add to her Esther.

Gv wanted to make another Esther, so we decided to try these puppets. 

She chose a red craft stick, traced her hand, then cut out all but the thumb and colored in the queen's features, crown, and hair. We found some random sticky jewels and a stray sequin and her queen was complete!

I'd also come across this idea last year and had pinned it to try when we did Esther again.

It not only was fabulous fun to add these squishy little jewels to our paper plate crown, but Gv has continued to make jewels every day since, to add to whatever project she happens to be working on each day!

Making these glue jewels couldn't be easier - just squeeze out some wet glue onto wax paper in circle and diamond shapes, wait for it to dry (that's the hard part, because it takes a day to fully dry) and then color the dots with marker.

Peel the jewels off the wax paper and glue them down onto your crown (stick glue works fine). We used a paper plate for a crown - just fold it in half to make a slit and cut your triangle points out, then bend them up and stick it on your head.

This crown worked a little too well - after placing it on her head, "Queen Gv" decided we needed to go have a photo shoot in the backyard. She struck this pose all on her own. Oh, dear.

Finally, I printed out this little coded message and served as Gv's scribe as she figured out which letters came next.
