5 After 5, Favorite Spring Break Memories

Is it spring break yet where you live?

We're up to our eyeballs in projects around this house this year, but it's still wonderful having Daddy here with us all week!

It's time for another round of 5 After 5!  In case you missed it, last week's list was favorite meals as a child and if you're new to this series, you can read more about it here - then catch up on all the old editions here.

Today I've got my list of 5 to share, as well as next week's topic for you to stew about over the upcoming days.

And this series is a link party, so be sure to scroll down and join in all the fun with us this week!

List 5 of your favorite spring break memories

Our plans for this year might not be very exciting (although I'll be soooo happy to have these projects completed), but I have plenty of memories of more exciting spring breaks of the past:

1. Daytona Beach, when it was THE place for Spring Break

Living only an hour away from this spring break mecca and growing up with beach-loving parents meant that I got to spend copious amounts of time dodging cars and boiling-hot sand to get to the waves - or collecting tickets from all my Skee-ball wins on the Boardwalk.

What? Were you actually expecting me to have wild, balcony-jumping memories from these vacations?

Ha, although I did see plenty of craziness there over the years, my focus was on soaking up all the oceanic fun.

2. My camping spot, in the snow

How my dad remembers our spring break camping trip (our tent had barely a dusting of powder on it)

Well, before the days of G, I took my dad there one spring break, and it was crazy cold.

Cold, like, we'd drive the 30 minutes out from camp along the dirt forest road just so we could go huddle in the heated bathrooms we'd discovered at a nearby picnic area cold.

Did I mention we live in FL?

I still refer to those things as the "warm bathrooms" every time we pass them each summer. (And they're on the only road to and from town, so we pass them a lot.)

But the cold didn't spoil our fun. Oh, no. This was the trip that my dad and I were way back in the middle of nowhere on a hike and it started to snow.

Not just any snow - that magical snow, the kind that Lorelai Gilmore would totally swoon over.

3. UK trip (St. Patrick's Day in Dublin)

I actually can't stand this stuff, but when you finish up your epic treasure-hunt day with a tour of the Guinness Storehouse and are rewarded at the end with a free pint, you take a sip. (& then pass the rest to your companion to finish!)
There are a few trips you just have to take at specific times of the year, and spending St. Patrick's Day in Dublin is just one of them.

If you ever make the trip yourself, I highly recommend participating in what I consider one of the festival's greatest activities, the treasure hunt.

Besides being a fun scavenger hunt and way to explore a new city, I still can't believe all the ground I covered and things I learned (& places I got in for free!) by joining this event.

4. Honeymoon

Lake Bled, Slovenia. Will anything ever top this fairy-tale spot?

When G and I got married, we were both still in the classroom, which meant trying to cram in everything during our school breaks.

Which, by the way, were totally unsynchronized, because he still lived in Miami for six months after we said our vows so that he could finish out the school year.

So, different school districts meant different breaks. We overlapped by a few days during Christmas break (when we managed to get married) and then, delight of delights, we actually had the same exact days off for spring break just a couple months later.

So off we went, to London and Italy and Slovenia - on what was an amazing first trip together!

5. The Netherlands at Tulip Time

This picture SO doesn't do the whole place justice, but it gives you a little taste.

This is another of those trips that you just have to take at a particular time and one I'd been wanting to go on for quite a while.

I wore G out (he's more of a relaxed, experience things slowly kind of guy), but we saw pretty much everything this country has to offer (well, as much as was humanly possible, at least).

Between the tulip fields, the flower auction, the cheese market, meeting a wonderful online friend in person and staying on a houseboat, this was definitely a trip for the record books!

For next week:

List your favorite birthday memories

I turn another year older next week and while I'm still not sure if I'll be partying it up or not yet (remember, I've goal big spring break project goals!), I can still think back to some of my favorite birthdays ever.

I can't wait to hear all about yours!

And now, here's this week's link party!  Another fabulous blogger has teamed up with me to create a list of five each week and we hope that you'll join us, too!

That's right, every post will be read, pinned and tweeted!

Every Saturday, just stop by one of our blogs to add your own list of five, then pop over and read as many other posts as you're able to each week - treat it like a true party and really mix it up and mingle with our fun little community!

The rules are simple:  just write your own list following the prompt each week (feel free to interpret it loosely - or in a unique way!), follow both of the hosts on the social media channel of your choice, and then get into the spirit of the party by grabbing your favorite beverage or snack and reading the lists of the other party-goers.

Your Hosts:

Lisa, at Syncopated MamaFacebook // Twitter // Pinterest // Google+ // Bloglovin'
Samantha, at Motivated DaysTwitter // Pinterest // Google+

What's your list?  I'd love to hear!  Either leave a comment below or email me at lisahealy (at) outlook (dot) com.

Also, if you don't want to miss a single minute of fun around here, be sure to sign up for free updates and then look forward to having each post delivered right to your inbox!
