Welcome back to Latticed Learning!  This year, we're continuing to learn while we play - repeating many of our favorites from last year while adding in all sorts of new activities as well.

This day's post is devoted to our weekly Bible stories - some weeks have more activities than others, but each lesson will help your little one grow closer to God!

Read the Bible

Pages pages 488-503 in this Bible and 343-357 in this one

Read a Little More

I flat-out came up empty-handed for extra books this week, but it's really okay. We're winding down our year and have plenty to read in our storybook Bibles about Paul this week!

Sing Some Songs

I couldn't come up with any great songs for this week, either. If you know of any good songs or books I could add, be sure to let me know!

Watch Some Videos

I did find a ton of great, short videos to go along with this week's learning.

There were several from Saddleback Kids:

Paul's Ministry:

Paul & Silas in Jail:

Paul in Damascus:

Paul's Conversion:

Paul's Shipwreck:

And a couple more from Crossroads Kids' Club:

God's Story: Paul

God's Story: Paul & Silas

And the What's in the Bible guys always do a great job, too:

Play and Create

We did a few things to learn more about Paul:

First, we learned about Paul's conversion.  We made a double-sided mask:

We left the unhappy side black and white, but colored his eye scales gray.

We fully colored in the happy side, the glued them on back-to-back with a craft stick in between to use as a handle.

We made this neat little craft, which shows how the scales fell off his eyes:

We made this a bit simpler than the original: I just shoved two paper clips through slits above his eyes and then wedged the scales in them.

To make the scales fall off, I just pulled up on the paper clips, and they fell off.  It was so easy to do this, Gv could continue to put them on and take them back off again all by herself.

I also taped black construction paper to the inside of a pair of Gv's sunglasses, so she could see what it might have been like when Paul couldn't see:

Next, we talked about Paul's different missionary trips while looking at a map of them in our Bible.  I got out a map of the United States and then we traced different routes we'd taken around the country on car trips together:

We read about how Paul and Silas were put into jail for sharing about Jesus, then we made a craft that combined this idea with this one:

We printed out the picture of Paul & Silas, Gv cut it out and glued it onto a sheet of newsprint.  Then I folded a sheet of construction paper in half three times and cut a rectangle out of the center, along the fold.  We unfolded the paper and glued it down to make the prison bars.

Gv ran over behind a headboard and said she was in jail, too:

Then we made a paper chain and talked about how it must have felt for Paul to have to wear them.  She really got into the dramatic side of this one:

You bet, Julie, and be sure to poke around some of the other things we did for Latticed Learning!
Amazing Lisa, just looking at Gv's face you can see how involved she is. This is so much better than another boring lesson, it all seems so much more real.

Thanks, Michelle! Gv and I just have so much fun doing things like this!
I can't wait to be a grandma someday so I can do stuff like this again with little kids. :) For some reason my tween and teens don't want to gather 'round for picture book and activity time. ;) Oh well. That stage was super fun while it lasted. Thanks for linking up with Literacy Musing Mondays.

I will definitely miss these days when Gv gets older! Tell me the tweens and teens have their own special things to look forward to?
I love how she really gets into the story Lisa

I love it too, Amber! She's just so much fun to spend time with!
The interactive methods that you use to teach are outstanding. I seriously don't know how you think of all of them. Definitely a talent. Pinning.
