I loved the idea to turn being kind into a competition for kids:
We put so much emphasis on personal achievements in the lives of our kids (my old classroom book logs spring to mind), but how often do we employ the trick of competition to motivate our kids in character-building ways?
Orion Jean, TIME 2021 Kid of the Year, wrote this book to challenge children to dream big, work together, and change the world by joining the kindness movement.
From giving meaningful compliments to sharing your snack to donating used clothes, there are so many ways to be kind that it can be tough to know where to start! Luckily, author and fellow kid Orion Jean has some simple steps we can all take to make the world a better place.
This book's rhyming, lyrical text is not only fun to read out loud, but it does a fantastic job showing kids how much fun taking action can be.
It stresses that you're never too young to make a difference, that there are many different ways to do this, and that even small acts of kindness can have a big impact.
The final page of the book even gives readers a real-life role model, as it shares Orion's journey from getting involved with his local community to having a nation-wide impact in his work.
