Songs to Get You into the Spirit of the Season

A soothing collection of a baker's dozen of standard Christmas classic songs, The Living Room Sessions would make beautiful background music for your Christmas meal.  I'm so used to Rice's songwriting talents (my favorite tune of his is The Cartoon Song) that it surprised me to discover this instrumental album, but I'm so glad I did.

An Activity to Add to the Jolly Atmosphere

Get inspired by today's movie selection, head outside, and build a snow (or sand) man!  Not having lived in a snowy clime myself, I've only created one or two of these chilly guys in my life.  I'm no expert on the optimal way to roll snowballs for the body, or even what clothing items are best to dress a chilly guy in.  I can, however, tell you that the amount of water you mix in with the sand is very important, if you want your warm-weather Frosty to withstand the sun's rays long enough to get that photo of your whole family gathered round wearing shorts and flip flops that, when your northern friends and family see it posted to your Facebook wall, will respond with all sorts of stink-faced emoticons.

Some Reading Sure to Garner a Great Response

Gv has already carted this book around so much this past week, I feel like the critters featured in it are a part of our family.  She was obviously drawn to the endearing illustration on the cover, since out of all the books in our "December" pile, she pulled this one out immediately.  Bear Stays Up for Christmas is a sweet tale of friends preparing for Christmas.  What I love most about it, besides the adorable pictures and rhyming verse, is how the text size and placement is varied, according to what's being said on the page.

A Movie to Get You in a Merry Mood

Happy Birthday!  The perfect choice to follow up yesterday's movie selection, Frosty the Snowman is another delightful tale that I'm sure many of us have watched since we were children.  (The second film on this DVD, Frosty Returns, is not a true sequel, but it's cheaper to purchase this set than it is to get Frosty by itself.)  I love so many of Professor Hinkle's quotes in this movie, and often tell myself, "I've got to get busy writing.  Busy, busy, busy!"

Day 9 - Joshua
Read Joshua 6 to remind yourself of how God takes situations that seem impossible and makes all things possible.  Then read Hebrews 11:31 for a New Testament connection.

Add your horn sticker to the tree to serve as a reminder for today's verses.

What will you be doing to observe this ninth day of Advent?  Will you be bundling up to build your wintery pal, or peeling down to your bathing suit for a dip in the ocean to wash off remnants of a sandy friend?  I'd love to hear!  Leave a comment or email me at lisahealy (at) outlook (dot) com.
