List your 2018 goals

Did you see my recent post where I checked in with my 2017 goals to see how the past year went? It's always helpful to see where you've been before considering where you're headed...

This year, even Gv jumped on the goal-setting bandwagon. This post on setting goals with kids is a fun snapshot into our lives that you'll enjoy reading!

Several of my 2018 goals are related to those from 2017, but there are a few that might surprise you...

5 After 5, Top 5 Books you Read this Year

It's always so difficult to choose my selections for a "favorite book" list, but here goes my best try at favorite reads for 2017...

List the top 5 books you read last year

You know there's no way I can truly narrow down all the bazillion books I read last year to my five favorites, but here's my best shot:

5 After 5, Children's books your kids loved this year

We were introduced to so many fabulous children's books this year, so it was incredibly hard to choose just five to focus on for this list!

I took the easy way out and had Gv choose...

List 5 children's books your kids loved this year

I couldn't get my list of these books down to fewer than 20 and even Gv had trouble choosing just five, but here's what we managed to come up with:

5 After 5, Ways you have grown or changed this past year

Do you spend much time in deep reflection around this season? I do...when I slow down enough to give my brain the chance...

List 5 ways you've grown or changed over the past year

Okay, I'm going to confess that things have been so busy around here, I have not allowed my brain the space to reflect deeply enough to come up with such lofty things as ways I've grown this year.

That's the sort of thing that I'll do if we go to the beach for a sunset, or if we take a hike, or while I watch the fireworks on New Year's Eve...

But what I have allowed my brain to do is think back over my goals for 2017 and come up with an update:

5 After 5, Ways to teach children the meaning of Christmas

Do you have many family holiday traditions that teach kids the meaning of Christmas? Here are five categories that we always cover...

So much hustle and bustle this time of year, but we always make sure to include traditions that help teach Gv the meaning of Christmas amongst all the ho, ho, ho fun.

5 After 5, Ways to give to others at Christmastime

The holidays are a popular time to share with others. How many groups on this list have you heard of?

The spirit of giving abounds this time of year, prompting many people to give to others along with all the shopping for their friends and family.

Here are five ways to help others this season:

Do you make Christmas lists for yourself each year? Whether you do or don't, what are five things you're hoping to see under your tree?

List your top Christmas wish-list items for grown-ups

How is it that the minute you have a kid, suddenly it's so much more fun to think of things they might want, rather than dwell on what you want yourself?

Even though it's way easier for me to list things on Gv's list than mine, here are five things I'd be excited to get this year:

5 After 5, Top Christmas Wish List Items for Kids

If you have little ones around your house, have they already started a Christmas wish list?

Just five things? Ha! I've got no less than five slips of paper sitting next to me already with scribbled notes of all the things Gv is super-excited about for this Christmas!

The top five items will vary wildly depending on your child's age and interests, but in case you have a 4-year-old who's a little offbeat like her mama, these ideas might help you out:

I've shared some of my favorite Thanksgiving traditions before, but here's what I'm most looking forward to this Turkey Day;

This is the time of year when we look forward to eating special things (that are usually pretty unhealthy) and for those of us at the Healy house, that includes plenty of cured meats!

I can't wait to sink my teeth into some:

5 After 5, Favorite Classical Pieces

Do you enjoy much classical music? My dad always called it "long-haired" music and we'd spend a ton of time making fun of it, but it has turned out to be probably my favorite type of music to listen to...

We kind of covered some of these things back on this week of 5 After 5, but it never hurts to revisit a topic again and see the changes. Plus, I just love lists, as you'll see:

5 After 5, Morning Routine

Are you usually functioning on auto-pilot each morning, completing the same tasks, no matter what?

Come see what I do each day and share your list, too!

List 5 things in your morning routine

I shared my typical everyday routines a couple of years ago and they're pretty much all the things I do right after I wake up.

I do a lot in the mornings, though, so I can easily come up with 5 additional tasks that I do once my feet hit the floor:

5 After 5, Favorite Family Fall Outings

Do you have a list of favorite family fall outings?

Like visiting a corn maze or pumpkin patch, taking a hay ride, or picking apples?

List 5 favorite fall family outings

I am chuckling, because I pretty much filled up my list of favorite fall activities a few weeks ago with all sorts of outings, so I don't really have anything else to add.

However, I can think of all sorts of fun outings I would love to attend if we could afford them and if they took place here in our neck of the woods, so I'll look forward to your list and share this wish-list of mine here:

5 After 5, Ways to fit in more reading

Do you love to read as much as I do, but can never seem to find time to do it?

List 5 ways to fit more reading into your day

I looooooove to read (bet you never guessed that one, did you?), but sometimes life just gets so busy that it seems impossible to crack open a book.

Here are five ways that I manage to squeeze it in -- and I'm hoping you have even more ideas to share, too!

5 After 5, Ways to enjoy "Me" time

What do you like to do to enjoy "Me" time? Do you get to have it very often?

List 5 ways to enjoy "Me" time

I am a bit of an introvert. I say a bit, because I happen to be married to an extreme introvert, so I look like the world's biggest extrovert next to him.

But I tell you what, if I don't get enough "Me" time, I just do not function well.

What do I choose to do, when I have these rare moments? Things like:

5 After 5, Before-Bed Routines

Do you have a certain list of tasks you have to do before your head hits the pillow each night?

We're talking bedtime routines on this week's 5 After 5.

List 5 things that are part of your bedtime routine

It's hurricane season over here, so we're spending lots of time hunkering down as the storms head our way -- which I guess makes me think sleepy thoughts and wonder what everyone's bedtime routines look like.

5 After 5, Fun Fall Activities

We might not actually experience fall around here, but there are definitely certain things we like to do in our "not fall."

List 5 fun activities for fall

We don't exactly experience fall around here, but there are definitely a few traditions we love to engage in each time this season announces its arrival (at least on paper, if not out the window!)

5 After 5, Favorite Fall Recipes

Do your thoughts turn to fall the minute your calendar switches from August to September?

We don't experience fall here, but we do eventually reach the point where we're not melting 24/7 from the heat, so then we try to trick ourselves into feeling the autumn spirit...

Favorite Fall Recipes

We're not so into pumpkin spiced-everything around here. No, when we think of fall, we think of soup.

We love soup.

Like, I'll make a different one every week (Yaaaay Lazy Crockpot Meal!), sometimes twice.

But, this isn't a "Favorite Soup" list, so I'm including a few of our favorite non-soup fall meals, as well.

5 After 5, Favorite School Memories

Did you enjoy school when you were younger?

I was generally pretty happy with it and have fond memories of that time...

Favorite School Memories

I have several elementary-school memories that stand out in my mind, like when my 4th-grade teacher "threw" a student in the trash can by his ears or when my 6th-grade teacher took my parents to the principal's office, or the rumor that my primary-grade principal, Mr. Staples, didn't actually paddle students (yeah, I'm so old, they still paddled kids when I started school), but would staple their tushies as punishment instead...

Good times, good times.
