5 After 5, Independence Day Edition

If you're outside of the States, then your list will obviously not look the same as mine, but I'd still love to hear what your summer (or winter, for all of my fabulous southern-hemisphere readers) looks like right now to you!

It's time for another round of 5 After 5!  In case you missed it, last week's list was favorite beverages and if you're new to this series, you can read more about it here - then catch up on all the old editions here.

Today I've got my list of 5 to share, as well as next week's topic for you to stew about over the upcoming days.

And this series is a link party, so be sure to scroll down and join in all the fun with us this week!

Favorite ways to celebrate 4th of July

1. Fireworks

I don't care where I am, but I'm going to find a way to see some fireworks on this day!

I just love 'em. I love the colors, I love the booms, I love the collective gasps from the crowd as they ooh and aah over the next big burst.

2. Food

Most years, we're camping up in the mountains for this holiday, so we don't often have the opportunity to really pig out on a variety of potluck dishes.

However, we always manage to at least have some hot dogs on this day -- it's one of the reasons we fought the Revolutionary War in the first place, right?

3. Guacamole

We seriously don't go anywhere without our guacamole supplies. No, really, I mean it. It's pretty much guaranteed that I'll whip out my "guac kit" (a plastic bowl & spoon, my pocketknife, a lime, some salt & pepper and, of course, avocados -- at least 3) each and every day and it really doesn't matter where we are, I can mix up a batch of green goodness pretty much anywhere (in a parking lot, a lawn chair waiting for a concert, in my lap while sitting on the curb waiting for G to use the bathroom at the BiLo...)!

Yes, I know. Guacamole is a food.

But it's so incredibly fabulous, it truly deserves its own spot on the list.

And the good thing is that it's something I can make pretty much anywhere we happen to be for the Fourth of July, so no matter what, you can bet we'll be consuming massive quantities of the stuff on this day.

4. Duck Race

We're usually in the mountains during this time, so we head in to Brevard (NC) for some good, old-fashioned, small-town 4th fun.

Part of the festivities includes a rubber duck race down the stream that runs through the local college campus.

We've never actually entered our own duck in the race, but it sure is awfully fun to watch!

5. Outdoor Concert

Like I said, we're usually up in the mountains during this time and one of our favorite things to do while we're there is to attend as many concerts at the Brevard Music Center's Summer Music Festival as possible.

One of our favorites that we never miss is the Pendergrast Family Patriotic Pops concert. It's everything you could want from an outdoor concert, complete with a rousing cannon finish for the 1812.

For next week:

Favorite dips

Mmmm, I love a good dip, so since I have so many favorites, I might just have to make them all in order to properly make my decision on which five I'll share...

That's right, every post will be read, pinned and tweeted!

Every Saturday, just stop by one of our blogs to add your own list of five, then pop over and read as many other posts as you're able to each week - treat it like a true party and really mix it up and mingle with our fun little community!

The rules are simple:  just write your own list following the prompt each week (feel free to interpret it loosely - or in a unique way!), follow both of the hosts on the social media channel of your choice, and then get into the spirit of the party by grabbing your favorite beverage or snack and reading the lists of the other party-goers.
