Friday Frivolity - Ways to fit more activity into your day

It's time for this week's edition of Friday Frivolity - the blog party for all things fun, funny, hopeful & happy!

Just wait until you see what we dug up for this week's theme...

At last week's party, we shared our latest binge-watch tv shows.

This week brings us National Take the Stairs Day, so I'm sharing my favorite ways to fit more activity into your day.

1. Take the Stairs

Geez, Louise. What was I thinking, choosing these stairs? Now I want to be there, right this minute!

Well, duh, what better way to celebrate National Take the Stairs Day, right?

I'm not really around stairs too much (not as common down here in Flat Florida as the rest of the world), but back in high school, when I was a candy-striper at the hospital, I'd always choose the stairs over the elevator.

2. Park Far

Most people hunt around for the best spot (closest) in a parking lot, but we're always on the hunt for the most shade, even though that usually also means that we're at the far edge of the pavement.

But the bonus is that we don't have to drive around long looking for a spot and I'm pretty much guessing that I get to the door of the store just as fast as if I'd searched for something closer because I...

3. Walk Swiftly

I can remember that back in college, I had half of my classes on one side of campus and the other half on the other side -- and of course these classes were always back-to-back with I think just 10-15 minutes in-between them.

So I learned to speed walk even with my bazillion-pound backpack thrown stylishly across one shoulder.

I still walk quickly wherever I go and the bonus is that people pretty much get out of my way when they see me coming!

4. Pace

If I'm stuck on the phone, then you can pretty much guarantee I'm doing laps around the house -- and at a brisk enough pace to get winded. (Can you imagine how many calories I would have burned as a teenager, if cordless phones had been out then?)

A similar tip is to find a time when you're prone to more sedentary choices -- like watching tv -- and then do something active. We skaters used to do wall-sits during all the commercials at night to see if we could hold them until our show (usually this show or this onecame back on!

5. Dance Parties

This one's the most fun and Gv and I started enjoying them from the first day she was born. (Well, maybe not the first day, but at whatever point it was that my nether-regions started to feel back to normal and I could move around again!)

We usually have music on in the background during the day around here. We listen to some of everything throughout the day, so at some point, a more frisky selection will play that gets us movin' and groovin' and we'll hold an impromptu dance party until the song ends. (And after which I'll surely collapse on the couch from exhaustion!)

Now time for the new stuff!
