Friday Frivolity - Beer Edition

It's time for this week's edition of Friday Frivolity - the blog party for all things fun, funny, hopeful & happy!

Just wait until you see what we dug up for this week's theme...

At last week's party, we shared our favorite Easter memories.

This week brings us New Beer's Eve, which I thought was just some silly joke, but after a bit of investigation, I learned that this staggering holiday commemorates the date (April 7, 1933) when the sale of beer became legal again.

I'm not all that into beer, but figured it would be fun to find out which were your favorites...

1. Guinness

Obligatory "I'm acting like I like this" photo, just to be touristy...

I don't actually like the taste of this, but I did really enjoy touring the Storehouse when I was visiting Dublin years ago.

My favorite part was the room filled with all the advertising posters and hearing all the fun jingles.

2. Radler

The English version of this German drink is a Shandy and it's a mixture of 50% beer and 50% lemonade. I was all for giving the real German beers a go, but then I discovered this yummy alternative and guzzled those instead.

I'd already discovered the Radler at this point in my trip, but sometimes you just have to experience a beer-hall in a more authentic manner!

3. Belgian honey beer

It's been so long since I had this drink along with a bucketful of mussels, packed elbow-to-elbow into a dark basement along with a bazillion Belgians, that I have no clue what it was called, but I just remember having the thought, "Wow, this beer actually tastes pretty good!"

4. Strongbow Cider

I'm a big fan of pubs and pub food, but I think I've only had a true pint in one once because I love this cider so much better.

Each summer, G will usually hunt down a pack of this somewhere in Asheville to get me for a camping treat!

5. Beer cheese soup

My favorite beer cheese soup is at Le Cellier Steakhouse, located here.

Okay, I know, I have not exactly followed the theme of this week precisely, but beer cheese soup is absolutely my favorite way to have beer and one of my favorite ways to eat cheese, too!

Years ago, I found a copycat recipe for the Canadian pavilion's specialty, so ever since then, I can make it at home, too.

Now time for the new stuff!

I always enjoy reading "slice of life" posts from other bloggers, but what really caught my eye in Unto Adoption's Easter Traditions & Throwbacks post was the little Easter tomb scene displayed, just like a little nativity at Christmas. 1. Thank you so much for featuring my Easter traditions & throwbacks! That tomb has been a terrific teaching tool, I’ve had it for years & the kids love it. (Can’t recall where I found it.) 😘
