Friday Frivolity - Favorite Monuments Edition

It's time for this week's edition of Friday Frivolity - the blog party for all things fun, funny, hopeful & happy!

Just wait until you see what we dug up for this week's theme...

At last week's party, we shared our favorite cheeses.

This week brings us National Monuments and Sites Day, so we're sharing our favorites of these around the world.

1. The National Mall

I've always loved all the collection of monuments in our nation's capital and it was so fun introducing it all to Gv this past summe
r!

2. Parco di Montececeri

I stumbled upon this park one Christmas Day while wandering around Fiesole enjoying all the delicious smells wafting from everyone's open windows.

Because I had no clue this place was there, it was even more awesome to discover that this was the spot where DaVinci attempted to fly -- how crazy is that?

3. L'Anse aux Meadows

Located at the northern tip of Newfoundland, this Viking settlement dates from about 1000 and that's just pretty darn old for North America!

4. Normandy Landing Beaches

With my fascination with WWII, this was a spot that could have fallen short of my expectations, but no, it was such a moving experience to stand there, looking back at the German bunkers, looking out to the Czech Hedgehogs along the water's edge, and soberly imagine what that day must have been like.

5. Mother Cabrini Shrine

I have tons of other spots that could easily make my top five list, but this one shows up because it reminds me of my summers in Colorado (I was there to train for figure skating)

We'd head out to this spot at least a time or two each season and challenge each other to see who could make it to the top first -- all while counting the steps up!

Now time for the new stuff!

The featured post for Syncopated Mama this week is........

I loved this Books, Covers and Homeschool Stereotypes post. I loved how even though she didn't look like a "typical homeschooling mom" that day, she could have, but it didn't matter either way. I also especially loved how she made the point to the kids about how important it was to be great representatives of homeschoolers, to help make sure that schooling choices remain in their state!

  5. I've always wanted to go to DC and see all the monuments. My favorite is the Eiffel Tower; I even had wire Eiffel tower lamps and a few Christmas tree ornaments. I got chills standing overlooking the Normandy beaches and seeing the field upon field of white crosses.
