“The Confession Musical,” starring John Schneider (Dukes of Hazzard & Smallville) and Emmy® -nominated and best-selling comedian/actress Chonda Pierce, is in theaters for one night only on February 20th:

This Musical movie is based on the New York Times best-selling book series “The Heritage of Lancaster County,” written by Beverly Lewis.

Katie Lapp, a young Amish girl, discovers her parents have been keeping a secret from her: she's adopted. Katie decides to seek her birth mother, defying the rules of her Amish village and risking a shunning.

Meanwhile, her wealthy birth mother is battling an illness that might take her life, and she begins searching for her long-lost daughter to bequeath her inheritance to before it is too late.

Secretly plotting against her is gold-digging husband Dylan (played by John Schneider), who is scheming to make sure he inherits her fortune. With the help and prayers of her Christian maidservant (played by Chonda Pierce) and butler, they try to foil Dylan’s plan and reunite Katie and Laura...

We're very into musicals around here, so it wasn't difficult to agree to watch this new one for a review. Even though I've never read any of Beverly Lewis' books, I'm certainly familiar with seeing her many titles on the shelves at the library or in a bookstore, so I was curious to see what her stories were all about.

I'd initially expected this film to be a Musical movie, but just a few minutes in, realized it was actually a film of a Musical, as in Musical Theater, pretty much just like this mega-hit that nearly everyone has seen (although one with a completely different parental rating level!)

By this point, my own little Musical Theater star had plopped herself in front of the screen, completely transfixed and saying things like "maybe one day we can do this at our theater!"

From the start, we enjoyed the fun Narrator character, but were quickly chuckling even more when Chonda Pierce entered the scene.

Of course, the minute my childhood crush Bo Duke stepped on stage, I had to wipe away the drool, but we won't talk about that here! {wink}

Gv and I really enjoyed this show. Despite its musical nature, I'd not had very high expectations of liking it (just because I'd thought it would be super-sappy and I'm not into sap!), but it was so well-done and had so many hilarious moments, it was a huge winner with us.

Some of our favorite moments? When fake "Katie" would call Dylan "Derwood," because Gv and I love watching this show!)

We continued to laugh and laugh until we cried, then we cried as the story developed until those tears turned back into laughs.

This was a big winner for us, and Gv is even asking if I can hunt down some of the other titles that flitted across the screen during the intermission.

I highly recommend this film! Buy tickets today to see The Confession Musical movie, based on the best-selling book series "The Heritage of Lancaster County" by New York Times Bestselling author Beverly Lewis, exclusively in theaters February 20th!
