I'm always looking for tools to enhance my Bible study, so I was looking forward to seeing this for myself:
What I'm most excited about with this Bible is that it's custom-made for taking notes and serious study.
I seem to go through regular Bibles far too often because they become so messy from writing all my thoughts in tiny script in the miniscule margins--plus, I'm always abbreviating things to save space and then when I go back to read what I've wrote, I have no clue what I was talking about. To combat these issues in the past, I've tried to use a regular spiral notebook alongside my Bible, but then I'd end up having to write out entire verses just so I'd have an idea what I was referencing with my notes (because just listing the chapter and verse still meant I'd have to go back, haul out my Bible, and flip through to remind myself of what I'd read to prompt my note in the first place!)
This notetaking Bible seems to be the perfect solution! It's like having a template for my notes, since all the verses are already printed there, and I now have plenty of space to write all the things that pop into my brain as I read!
It also leaves my regular Bible clean and pretty (I am still highlighting verses, but saving the notes for here), which makes it more enjoyable for me to just sit and read it as a book and not be distracted by all of my scribblings over the years.
There are plenty of great features to point out in this Bible, including:
* A spiral binding that allows you to lay the whole book completely flat OR fold the cover back onto itself easier (which I usually do, because I curl up on the bed or couch to do my Bible study)
* PLENTY of space for your notes and journaling (and thicker paper, so you can break out those fun markers you've been wanting to use!)
* A reading plan at the front, to keep track of dates and motivate you to keep up with your study
* A thick cover, which helps make it easy to tote the book along to use on the go
* Book introductions, which provide cultural and geographical context (including plenty of timelines, maps & charts), as well as context within all of Scripture
* Book outlines, which provide a broad context of the whole book
* Beautifully illustrated key verses -- to inspire your journaling and they were chosen to help you remember the book's theme
* Larger font size, to give your eyes a break
Also, since no one wants to be lugging an encyclopedia set around everywhere, this Bible has been split into five volumes to make it more practical to use every day. The set has been divided into the Pentateuch, historical books, wisdom & poetry, prophets, and the New Testament.
I received the New Testament and I have to say that if I could only have one, it's definitely the one I'd choose. (This would also be a perfect gift for someone if you didn't have the budget to spring for all 5!) Something I especially love with this volume is that the Old Testament passages that are quoted in the NT text are bolded -- I love seeing how much bolded type there is!
I've found that this book has been the perfect companion as I work through the Bible in a Year (BIAY) podcast again, since I have space enough to include info from that as well as my own thoughts.
As a final note, "She Reads Truth" is an online community full of reading plans, discussions, and fellowship. I'm not very familiar with this group, but it seems like a positive resource to check out.
Also, this Bible is written in the CSB translation, which I'm also not super-familiar with. I'm not necessarily looking for a new translation to use (I have my favorites!), but the different translation really hasn't been a factor for me since I'm relying on the verses to jog my memory more than anything, and I'm still reading most of my text in my regular Bible.
Oh! And I just thought of another great thing about this Bible -- I've never had a problem writing in my Bibles, but I know loads of people who don't want to write in ANY book, much less a Bible, so these volumes solve that problem completely!
All said, I think this notetaking Bible set is definitely the perfect companion for Bible study and will make opening your Bible every day more enjoyable! Order your copy here or here, or wherever books and Bibles are sold!
