Celebrating the Season: Captivity {Day 15}

Songs to Get You into the Spirit of the Season

 
 

Okay, this one is old a classic and probably not super well-known, but that just means that adding it to your play list will provide a little more variety and some unique songs for your listening pleasure.  Evie's Come on Ring Those Bells includes some standard Christmas songs, but my favorite is the title song, Come on Ring Those Bells, with One Small Child running a close second.  I've never heard either of those songs by anyone else and downloaded the MP3 tracks long before the CD was released.

An Activity to Add to the Jolly Atmosphere

If you live in or near any type of city or town at all, you can probably find some great parks, botanical gardens, museums, or historical homes decorated for the season.  Sometimes it's even worth a bit of a drive to experience an event at one of these locations.  Some of the great places I've visited over the years have included special gardens like this one, this one, and this one or a museum stroll like this.  You might even think about venturing a bit farther from home, to see the big city or immerse yourself in a magical holiday experience here.  Just look for attractions in your area to find the perfect fit for your family.

Some Reading Sure to Garner a Great Response

   

Even if you are reading the classic version of this story aloud as a family, the younger members of your audience might enjoy flipping through a picture book version like this one, or even a whimsical board book introduction like this one.

Read Stave 3 today.  Yesterday's stave took us back to Scrooge's past, while today we travel along with The Ghost of Christmas Present to catch a glimpse of how the other characters are celebrating this day.

A Movie to Get You in a Merry Mood

     

Once you see this version, you'll never look at another door knocker without seeing it morph into Goofy's head.  Mickey's Christmas Carol features all the great classic Disney pals in their adaptation of this tale.

Day 15 - Captivity

Read Lamentations for an overview of the life of God's chosen people in captivity and then read Matthew 1:17 for a New Testament connection.

Add your lock sticker to the tree to serve as a reminder for today's verses.
