Songs to Get You into the Spirit of the Season

 
 

Get your Christmas swinging with music from the great Ella Fitgerald.  A Swinging Christmas puts a fresh spin on many classic songs and you'll be snapping your fingers along with it when you listen.  Be on the lookout for the song Christmas Island - it's a departure from the standard songs usually found on every album, and my favorite track.

An Activity to Add to the Jolly Atmosphere

Now is probably the time you can find a church cantata, live nativity or walk through Bethlehem program in your area.  Make plans to visit one of these presentations, if you're not already participating, that is.  We have a church around the corner that actually has a "Drive-Through Bethlehem" program this weekend.  We've tried to walk over and check it out every year we've lived here, but have always been too late, or too early and not wanted to wait out the cloud of mosquitoes that is usually swarming about the time it begins.  I'm sure the majority of you reading don't have that buggy issue, though.

Read Stave 2 today.  Yesterday's stave set the mood and introduced us to Marley's ghost.  Today is the visit from the Ghost of Christmas Past.

A Movie to Get You in a Merry Mood

   

Did you know that this was the first animated Christmas special created for television?  I didn't, either.  You never know what crazy trivia you'll pick up from a simple search online.

The squinty Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol is one of my favorites versions of this tale.  I haven't seen it on television very often, so I'm wondering how many of you have seen it before.  I haven't seen it myself for years, but I've been wanting to get it, so I'm excited to find it for less than $5 here!

Read 1 Kings 3-6, where Solomon requests wisdom from God and then builds the very temple which will become the setting for several occurrences in Jesus' life.


Add your book sticker to the tree to serve as a reminder for today's verses.
