It's time for another round of 5 After 5!  In case you missed it, last week's list was 5 ways to stay cool in the summer heat and if you're new to this series, you can read more about it here and catch up on all the old editions here.

Today I've got my list of 5 to share, as well as next week's topic for you to stew about over the upcoming days.

And this series is now a link party, so be sure to scroll down and join in all the fun with us this week!

Share your 5 favorite summer Olympic events to watch

Have you been watching the games in Rio?  Is your television on for all the coverage, 24/7, or do you just pick and choose certain events to watch?

While for me it's nothing compared to the Winter Games, I still enjoy getting my Olympics fix every couple of years, so I've been happy with all the coverage that I've been able to find online.

Here are five events that I'm most likely to watch this summer:

1.  Opening Ceremonies

Even though I always regret it the next morning, I can't let an Olympic opening ceremony go by without tuning in to the entire thing.

From the endless blabbing of the commentators to the amazing (or not) performance, to the constant marching and waving (& now selfie-taking) of the parade of athletes, to the IOC official's speech right up until the final moments when the torch is carried in and this year's cauldron is unveiled, I want to watch it all.

2.  Track Events

I am not a runner.

Like, way back when I was in school, I could walk a mile in way less than 15 minutes, but when Presidential Fitness Test time rolled around each year and I had to run a mile, it would take me the entire 40 minutes of P.E. to do it.

I don't run.

I do, however, enjoy watching running.  At the Olympics.

Only at the Olympics.

3.  Swimming

Just like number 2 on this list, I am not a swimmer.

In fact, until very recently, I hadn't been in a pool in over 20 years.

And I live in Florida!!

I do, however, enjoy watching all the races held in the pool.  I think that swimming and running are both such quick events, you get a giant payoff from just a small investment of time.

And of course, the commentators are usually filling in all sorts of dramatic back-stories for the athletes, so even someone like me who doesn't know Carl Lewis from Mark Spitz will have someone to root for, whether on land or underwater.

4.  Diving

I love how diving combines the acrobatic skill of gymnastics with the OCD tendencies of this guy.

I mean, everything has to be so precisely lined up so that as little of a splash as possible kicks up after the athlete enters the water.

And it's all done from a dizzying height, to boot.

I could never do it, that's for sure.

5.  Gymnastics

Gymnastics is the skating of the Summer Games - it's what provides us with some of the brightest stars and probably the event that just about everyone tunes in for.

Is it on your list, too?

For next week:

Share 5 of the most memorable Summer Olympics moments

I've got my five - and I'm betting that one of them in particular will be familiar to just about everybody (and that another one is still burned into your brain if you're my age or older!)

I can't wait to see what you share!

And now, here's this week's link party!  Two other fabulous bloggers have teamed up with me to create lists of five each week and we hope that you'll join us, too!

That's right, every post will be read, pinned and tweeted!

Every Saturday, just stop by one of our three blogs to add your own list of five, then pop over and read as many other posts as you're able to each week - treat it like a true party and really mix it up and mingle with our fun little community!

The rules are simple:  just write your own list following the prompt each week (feel free to interpret it loosely - or in a unique way!), follow each of the three hosts on the social media channel of your choice, and then get into the spirit of the party by grabbing your favorite beverage or snack and reading the lists of the other party-goers.

Your Hosts:

I have been watching avidly I love the gymnastics and the athletics - have been watching the sailing just because it seems to be the only event we had a hope of medaling in over in Ireland. Thanks for popping over to I am Pinnable and congratulation on being featured :)

I did not watch any of the sailing - how did Ireland fare? Thanks for the congrats on the feature, as well as taking the time to say hello today!
I've had it on TV here & there. Love the swimming and gymnastics and all the back stories about the athletes! Thanks for sharing on #overthemoon!

Glad I'm not the only one who enjoys hearing all the back stories about the athletes, Cathy! Thanks for stopping by to say hey and have a great weekend!

I love watching the gymnastics and track...the swimming bores me and so does the diving. Actually, that's false. I'm always terrified that a diver is going to his or her head on the diving board!

I am always worried about that when watching diving, as well, Barbara! And I totally get swimming being boring - I would think it would be, but somehow it always sucks me in.
I love all the same things as you do. First though the swimming, our daughter was on her school's swim team for a few years and on a club team and we really fell in love with it. Plus Michael Phelps and all of the other incredible US swimmers, it was so cool to watch record after record being set. And gymnastics, it was so great that Gabby Douglas made it back to the Olympics, love her, and Simone Biles was so incredible, and Laurie Hernandez! It was a great show. And I am looking forward to seeing them in four more years!

I can imagine that swimming is especially a favorite because of your daughter! Does she still swim much? And boy, those lady gymnasts this year - can you believe how far ahead they were from all of the other countries? Have a great weekend, Nikki!
I agree with your list and would add I like some of the team sports. I played field hockey in high school and college so I try to catch those games. I also like handball. I had never seen it before we moved to Spain. It's really popular in Europe, the Middle East and Asia where there are professional teams. It looks like it would be a fun recreational league sport. Hope it catches on in the US.

How fun that you played field hockey, Lydia! I don't really think that's something we have down here in Florida, but I know some of my friends who live up north have kids who play it in school. I don't really know much about handball, either - I'll have to check it out!
I have been watching the Olympics. My favorite event is the Men's 400 meters in track. It is because I used to run it when I was in high school and also because I ran against Steve Lewis in high school. Lewis, a year out of high school won the 400 meters at Seoul Olympics. It is pretty cool to have someone that you know win an Olympic medal.
I could share the tv remote with you any day! Those are definitely the best parts of the Olympics. I'll bring the popcorn!

Hahaha, that's great, Michele! And I'm totally on board with the popcorn for a snack, as well!
I am an Olympics addict myself. My faves to watch are swimming, diving, track, gymnastics, and beach volleyball! Thanks for linking up On the Edge of the Week! I hope to see you again next week. Have a wonderful weekend!

How fun that enjoy watching so many Olympic events, Shelbee! It sounds like most of them are the same as my favorites, too! Have a great weekend!
I haven't actually seen any of the games this year! Normally I'm glued to the swimming and the diving, in particular, though. My brother did show me a video of one of the gymnast's breaking his leg before I realised what it was going to be D: You have to have guts to be a gymnast! #FridayFrivolity
1 reply · active 448 weeks ago
We ended up not seeing as much as we'd planned, but I'm surprised you didn't see any of them. I actually missed the whole leg-breaking thing, but I heard about it and it sounded like I was glad I didn't see it!
