5 After 5, Favorite Winter Activities

Have you already had enough of winter and all the extra work that goes along with it?

We don't really get winter around here, but there are still certain things I enjoy and associate with the season...

It's time for another round of 5 After 5!  In case you missed it, last week's list was ways to enjoy winter and if you're new to this series, you can read more about it here - then catch up on all the old editions here.

Today I've got my list of 5 to share, as well as next week's topic for you to stew about over the upcoming days.

And this series is a link party, so be sure to scroll down and join in all the fun with us this week!

List 5 of your favorite winter activities

Even though practically none of these can be done around these parts, there's always the chance of traveling someplace that actually has winter. These are my favorites:

1.  Ice Skating

Seeing as how my world has revolved around this sport for approximately 99.9% of my life, it's a pretty obvious choice for this list.

My favorite way to skate? In a rink all alone, with only a few lights on and a great list of tunes playing over the speakers (this song and this one move me like no other out there on the ice!)

And although I've only skated on true ice once before in my life, it would be a dream to recreate this entire scenario:

And I've got this on my bucket list, as well.

2.  Traveling

I hiked 2.5 miles from the farm I stayed at to this incredible site in the snow - talk about experiencing a fairy tale first-hand!

Okay, it doesn't need to be winter for me to want to do this activity, but there is something absolutely magical about traveling to new destinations at winter time.

3.  Camping

There's not much cooler than waking up to a cozy white blanket outside your tent in the morning!

It is no fun camping in the oppressive heat of Florida in the summer, so of course I have to go to the other extreme and look for opportunities to camp in the snow.

This isn't anything too chilly, though. I like it just snowy enough to make the tent all warm and cozy, but still be able to fix food (and make a bathroom run!) without turning into a human icicle.

4.  Hiking

There is something so magical abut hiking in the snow - and nothing beats setting out on a hike and having it start snowing along the way and then getting to see everything beautifully dusted and be the first person to leave footprints on a path.

My favorite memory of this happening? On the Pilot Cove Trail in Pisgah National Forest, with my dad!

5.  Tubing

I've never been skiing (although I want to someday - it's supposedly simple for an ice skater to do), but I did go tubing once and it was an absolute blast!

For next week:

List 5 things to do at the state fair

I'm sure no one else has a state fair going on at this time of the year, but ours is gearing up and since it's such a big tradition with us, I figured I'd share some of our favorite things to do there.

And now, here's this week's link party!  Another fabulous blogger has teamed up with me to create a list of five each week and we hope that you'll join us, too!

That's right, every post will be read, pinned and tweeted!

Every Saturday, just stop by one of our blogs to add your own list of five, then pop over and read as many other posts as you're able to each week - treat it like a true party and really mix it up and mingle with our fun little community!

The rules are simple:  just write your own list following the prompt each week (feel free to interpret it loosely - or in a unique way!), follow both of the hosts on the social media channel of your choice, and then get into the spirit of the party by grabbing your favorite beverage or snack and reading the lists of the other party-goers.

Your Hosts:

Lisa, at Syncopated MamaFacebook // Twitter // Pinterest // Google+ // Bloglovin'
Samantha, at Motivated DaysTwitter // Pinterest // Google+

What's your list?  I'd love to hear!  Either leave a comment below or email me at lisahealy (at) outlook (dot) com.

Also, if you don't want to miss a single minute of fun around here, be sure to sign up for free updates and then look forward to having each post delivered right to your inbox!

You were missed, but I'll look forward to seeing what you come up with for this week's list!
We love tubing in the snow... second winter in a row though where we've hardly gotten any snow and the little bit we did get did not work well for sledding.

I can't imagine living with snow all the time, but I'm sure it would be really weird to normally have snowy winters and then have hardly any! How fun that you love tubing, too, Joanne!
AHHH!! I came over to check out the winter activities list of my favorite Floridian and now am TOTALLY distracted by that gorgeous Brian Boitano/Alaska video...and by the fact I cannot remember for sure where I've heard that song before. Please help me!!!!! All I can think of it "The Secret of My Success" with Michael Jackson and that Helen/Supergirl person?! Also, I really hope you get to make that dream come true someday, my friend. In other news, I I would list my favorite winter activities, but I am pouting because winter apparently decided the teaser it gave around here in December was good enough and it has now LEFT THE BUILDING and we are surrounded by only mud and potholes. Which I refuse to have any sort of good attitude about. The end.

Ding Ding Ding! You are correct and I think it is SO COOL that you were able to peg that song!! It's very familiar to me because it was extremely popular to use for programsduring my skating era (which is when that video happened), but I just really didn't expect someone else to know it!

So sorry about all the mud and lack of winter. We have not seen winter here, either, but at least it's nice outside!
I love all the snowy, wintry scenes and while I like being out in the falling snow my time spent in it will be short cause I don't like freezing. I've grown less tolerant of the cold. Keeping my feet and fingers warm has always been a problem but this issue only gets worse with time. However, looking at photos of others having fun in the snowy outdoors is fun to do. I ice skated once or twice in my life. I'm not very good at it. I've never been snow tubing but that looks like lots of fun. We were in North Carolina one winter at night when we came across a snow tube hill. We pulled off to watch the excitement. It was horribly windy and after a few shots, I retreated to the car barely able to hold onto my camera while shaking uncontrollably. lol But...oh was the exhilarating. You can check out my SWF pix here and if you need some laughs, then check out my Friday Sillies segment while your visiting. Have a good weekend and be blessed!

I don't like being cold, either, so that means that I'm usually the one overheating on a hike or something because I've got a bazillion layers on. Off to check out your SWF pix...
Tubing is always a blast! Love it! I don't know about camping in the snow though, I'd probably cry. Lol. Great post!

There's something especially magical about camping in the snow. Of course, when I say that, I mean camping in a pretty snow, not a blizzard or something...
