It's a new month, which means I'm over at Pam Barnhill's site again sharing homeschool solutions for the preschool years.

This time, I've written a post on 5 Easy Ways to Incorporate Preschool Math Into Your Days

But before you click on over and check it out, learn more about suggestion #5 right here.

I've said before that we don't have tv service, but between the library and what we can find online, we're able to watch anything we want to for free.

PBSKids.org has been one of our favorite resources to use with Gv - I originally headed over there in search of Sesame Street (which is, of course, also awesome), but it didn't take long for Gv to discover something special there all on her own.

On the site, you're able to scroll through a wheel of all the PBS shows, including Gv's absolute favorite: Peg + Cat.

"Hi! I'm Peg - and I'm Cat!"

For the last six months, life has been all about Peg + Cat around here - and unless things change (which I highly doubt), I will likely be coming up with a Peg + Cat-themed birthday party in a few months!

At least the food will be simple - we can just have pizza!

Peg + Cat is an animated preschool series that follows fun Peg and her sidekick Cat as they embark on adventures, solve REALLY BIG problems together, and lay out fundamental math concepts and skills - without TOTALLY FREAKING OUT!

Spoiler alert: Peg and Cat are always TOTALLY FREAKING OUT!

This show makes math cool by inspiring preschoolers' natural curiosity and helps them understand new concepts and problem-solving strategies through the use of engaging characters, whimsical stories and songs that you won't mind getting stuck in your head.

Lively characters (like the "Teens," a pig, and pirates) help Peg and Cat count, sort, and group their way to solutions to everyday problems - experimenting with concepts like superlatives, ordinal numbers, rhyming, patterns, tens, proportions, Geometry, measurement, fractions, operations and way more.

The Teens are totally cool - and I love how they've got their numbers on their shirts!

Your child won't even realize (s)he's learning these important skills - it will all just feel like fun!

Cat has fun too - I promise!

I love how Peg challenges the traditional gender divide within the mathematical field as well as how often it's not Peg's first idea that proves to be successful - stressing the value of perseverance and creative thinking.

At the end of each episode - the problem is always solved! (with a fun little song, too!)

Besides being able to watch a few episodes online for free (you can get them all for no extra charge if you have an Amazon Prime membership - Try Amazon Prime 30-Day Free Trial here!), the Peg + Cat website is loads of fun for your child to click around and explore as well.

Notice the graph-paper background? And the infinity sign clouds? I love those little details!

Whether it's games, adventures, videos, activities, music or collecting rocks, this is one spot on the web that you won't mind your little one hanging out in.

See the E=mc2 up there? Einstein is a regular character on this show - as is Beethoven!

And as if those media options weren't enough, I've discovered several Peg + Cat books that are just as entertaining as the show.

The pages look like graph paper and mirror many of the show episodes - allowing Gv to relive some of her favorite moments.

Here are a few of our favorite titles to check out for yourself:

The Chicken Problem

The Pizza Problem

The Racecar Problem

We just can't get enough Peg + Cat around here, so we're really looking forward to the Peg + Cat: Peg and Cat Save the World movie that's due to come out May of 2017.

But whether you check out the movie, show episodes, books, or just play around on the website, Peg + Cat will be sure to spark a mathematical interest in your child!

And don't forget to click on over to my 5 Easy Ways to Incorporate Preschool Math into Every Day post on Pam's site to learn even more tips on how to integrate preschool math into your days!

  5. This looks like so much fun. I love when a child learns but is entertained at the same time. They remember so much better. I wish this was around when my kids were little, but that was way before all these cool shows. I'm old. LOL

  6. This would have been a great book for my daughter when she was younger. She loves math. When my son is old enough for it, I think she would enjoy reading this to him. THanks for sharing.
