5 After 5, Favorite Meals as a Child

Do you remember what your favorite meals to eat as a child were?

I'd never eat some from my list today, but there are a few that I still enjoy...

It's time for another round of 5 After 5!  In case you missed it, last week's list was things to do for Lent and if you're new to this series, you can read more about it here - then catch up on all the old editions here.

Today I've got my list of 5 to share, as well as next week's topic for you to stew about over the upcoming days.

And this series is a link party, so be sure to scroll down and join in all the fun with us this week!

List 5 of your favorite meals as a child

The only bad thing about this week's list is that now I'm suddenly craving a couple of these dishes:

1. My mom's fried chicken

Any time my mom asked me if I wanted a special meal for my birthday, I would request the same thing: her fried chicken, mashed potatoes and corn.

It's rare that we have fried chicken around here, but since every so often I crave that meal, I go fix this yummy chicken & waffles dish instead.

2.  BLT

We don't really ever have bacon around here, but even if we did, I could never re-create my mom's BLT sandwich.

I don't know what she does to it, but it's always the most delicious BLT I've ever had.

Mmmmm...I might just have to jump in the car and drive the two hours to get one right now...

3.  Tomato soup and grilled cheese

Any time I was sick, I would beg for this soup and sandwich combination. It didn't matter if I had a cold, an upset stomach, or some other malady, I didn't want chicken soup, I wanted tomato soup with a grilled cheese!

Even today, this is my ultimate comfort food. I crave it when I'm sick, I crave it when I'm feeling down, heck, I'm craving it right now...

Thank goodness I have a loaf of bread that's about to finish baking!

4.  Chef Boyardee Ravioli or SpaghettiOs

I didn't look forward to having a babysitter when I was little, but if I was going to have one, I knew that meant a can of one of these special treats for dinner!

I can't imagine ever wanting to consume either one now, but I bet if I did, I'd be transported right back to my childhood!

5.  Cereal

We don't have cereal around here (unless you count the massive quantities of this delicious homemade granola that we eat with yogurt), but I'm pretty sure I could still happily chow down on my two favorite cereals from my childhood.

I never really had typical sugary kid cereal growing up, so Cinnamon Life and Cracklin' Oat Bran were my favorites.

The last time I ate either one of them, however, I was so disappointed. The both taste different from how I remember them - I'd say that maybe they've made them healthier, but since I thought they tasted sweeter, somehow I don't think that's the case.

For next week:

List 5 fabulous spring break memories

G's spring break kicks off next weekend and since our plans consist of a mile-long to-do list, I'll just enjoy memories of more exciting weeks from the past.

I can't wait to hear all about yours!

And now, here's this week's link party!  Another fabulous blogger has teamed up with me to create a list of five each week and we hope that you'll join us, too!

That's right, every post will be read, pinned and tweeted!

Every Saturday, just stop by one of our blogs to add your own list of five, then pop over and read as many other posts as you're able to each week - treat it like a true party and really mix it up and mingle with our fun little community!

The rules are simple:  just write your own list following the prompt each week (feel free to interpret it loosely - or in a unique way!), follow both of the hosts on the social media channel of your choice, and then get into the spirit of the party by grabbing your favorite beverage or snack and reading the lists of the other party-goers.

Your Hosts:

Lisa, at Syncopated MamaFacebook // Twitter // Pinterest // Google+ // Bloglovin'
Samantha, at Motivated DaysTwitter // Pinterest // Google+

What's your list?  I'd love to hear!  Either leave a comment below or email me at lisahealy (at) outlook (dot) com.

Also, if you don't want to miss a single minute of fun around here, be sure to sign up for free updates and then look forward to having each post delivered right to your inbox!

  3. my mom would make pounds of bacon and melt cheese on toast to make a sandwich. No lettuce or tomato, just mounds of bacon, cheese and mayo. Its a wonder we don't all have heart problems! #fridayfriviolity

  6. Tomato soup and grilled cheese top my list, too. Also mac n cheese and fish sticks, although I got tired of them when I grew up and it was all I could afford to eat as a newlywed, hahaha. Thanks for sharing with us at Creatively Crafty #ccbg :)
