NIV Investigator's Holy Bible

When you need to choose a Bible for your child, it's important to find one that's a good fit.

This kid-friendly, detective-themed Bible is so engaging, it definitely needs to be one that you consider!

I received a free copy of this product as a member of Zondervan's Z Blog Squad in exchange for writing a review.  All opinions are my own.

I recently shared my thoughts on a children's Bible centered around Jeremiah 29:11.

That Bible is absolutely one to consider getting, especially because its simpler style appeals to children who want a bit of elaboration without too much distraction from the main text.

However, we're very excited to have discovered this engaging, fun Bible that arrived the other day for review:

This book will definitely be Gv's next Bible when she transitions away from her current storybook versions!

The appeal of this book begins with its cover (We have the hardcover version, although there is an imitation leather version, as well.)

The full, colorful graphics and foil background effects grab your attention immediately, promising that your time spent within these pages will be full of adventure!

Doesn't this cover entice you to open up the book to see what's inside?

Once you crack open this book's cover, the introduction helps you understand what makes this Bible so different from the others.

It invites the reader to join two mystery-solving characters, Mateo and Isabella, (and their dog!) as they investigate what makes this book called the Bible so special.

They do this through six unique features highlighted through the book:

The Evidence

This section comes at the beginning of each book. Think of it as an outline or introduction that provides the who, what, when and why using kid-friendly language.

Breakthrough!

These sections pop up often throughout the pages. You'll learn all sorts of historical and cultural background notes here, as well as explanations of many new vocabulary words.

The Witnesses

This section explains the meaning and history behind many biblical names that you'll come across.

The Scene

This section paints a thorough picture of many of the geographical locations mentioned.

Check the Facts

These boxes contain a one-question "quiz" to help ensure the reader remembers some of the main points of what they've read. There aren't as many of these as some of the other features, which I think is completely appropriate.

Case Closed!

This provides a summary at the end of the book and helps kids see how what they've read relates to them as individuals.

Besides these fun features, this Bible includes the standard NIV preface (explaining more about this version and how it came about), cute little illustrations here and there and extensive appendices.

It's just a cute little bird pulling up a worm, but these little illustrations (done mostly in blue and orange) liven up many of the pages.

The appendices include an index to all the features, a chart showing the weights and measures of the time, a concordance and seven maps!

I was extremely impressed by these maps - I think they're even better than the ones included in my Bibles!

I just love this Bible!

Kids relate so well to stories, therefore following along with Mateo and Isabella as they make their investigative journey through the Bible will help your child better connect to what they're reading and introduce them to the practice of digging deeper into God's word through in-depth Bible study.

Its use of color (shades of orange and blue) in not only the illustrations, but also the headings, helps information stand out and means that even the small touches, not only the special features, help your child better understand this important book.

The recommended age range for this children's Bible is 6-10, but I actually think children a few years younger would enjoy it, as well (as long as they had someone to read it to them). I'm thinking of using it with Gv (probably in addition to her storybook Bibles) when we start things up again in the fall!

And as far as the upper age limit goes, I really have been enjoying reading it and learning things from all the features, so I think this Bible would be fun for all ages!

I highly recommend this title! You can get a copy of the book here and begin investigating the Bible on your own!

Does this Bible appeal to you as much as it does Gv and I?  I'd love to hear!  Either leave a comment below or email me at lisahealy (at) outlook (dot) com.

I love the sound of this NIV investigators Holy Bible.
What a great way for kids to learn. I would think when they can read for themselves it would be good for many years.
