5 After 5, Outdoor Children's Games Edition

Even though we have to hole up inside the house and hide from the heat in the summer, I bet wherever you are, you're enjoying an extra dose of the great outdoors.

This week, we're sharing favorite outdoor kid's games at 5 After 5.

It's time for another round of 5 After 5!  In case you missed it, last week's list was favorite dips and if you're new to this series, you can read more about it here - then catch up on all the old editions here.

Today I've got my list of 5 to share, as well as next week's topic for you to stew about over the upcoming days.

And this series is a link party, so be sure to scroll down and join in all the fun with us this week!

Favorite Outdoor Children's Games

Gv's not quite old enough to play many of these games, but you can bet I'll be teaching them to her when she gets a little older!

Here are five of my favorites, from when I was a kid:

1. Capture the Flag

I only played this game at summer camp, so anytime I think of it, I smell hay and horseflesh and hear gospel songs around the campfire (It was a Christian horse camp).

2. Scavenger Hunts

I love scavenger hunts!

I loved them as a kid and I still love them today.

In fact, we play one long-distance with my family each winter (Christmas lights) and can't go a year without playing this version at the state fair every spring!

3. Freeze Tag

And not just any old freeze tag, but movie, tv show and song editions were always the best.

I wonder how old Gv will be before she's able to really get into those games like I did?

4. Hide and Seek

It seems like such a simple game, but as I got older, it just got more and more fun (and complex!)

Usually this game would start when my mom was standing outside my friend's house talking to her mom after a day of play that I didn't want to leave.

My friend and I would scurry off to find the best hiding spot possible, thinking that if we couldn't be discovered, I wouldn't have to go home...

5. Routines

Anybody besides me remember this movie? It inspired SO many of my backyard routines!
This was actually always my favorite thing to play.

Dance routines, gymnastic routines, roller-skating routines, swingset routines, raft-in-the-ocean routines, cheerleading routines and my favorite -- Wonder-Woman routines...it didn't matter what I was doing, I was outside making it into a routine!

For next week:

Best Open-Ended Toys

Here comes one of those weeks where I wonder how many duplicates we'll see on the lists -- I can't wait to see yours!

That's right, every post will be read, pinned and tweeted!

Every Saturday, just stop by one of our blogs to add your own list of five, then pop over and read as many other posts as you're able to each week - treat it like a true party and really mix it up and mingle with our fun little community!

The rules are simple:  just write your own list following the prompt each week (feel free to interpret it loosely - or in a unique way!), follow both of the hosts on the social media channel of your choice, and then get into the spirit of the party by grabbing your favorite beverage or snack and reading the lists of the other party-goers.
