Some of our favorite friends are autistic persons, so Gv and I were excited to support this film and share its positive message with others...
...what we didn't expect was that it would be such an overall enjoyable movie for all three of us to watch together as a family!
Based on this true-story, The Unbreakable Boy follows teenaged Austin and how his magic touch inspires everyone he meets to face life's challenges with joy and resilience.
When Austin's parents learn their son is both autistic and has brittle bone disease, they are worried for the future; in all honesty, they should be worried, because life can be so hard.
This film embraces the reality of what it's like to live with these challenges in a family, and I guarantee it will unlock stores of compassion within you that you didn't know you had as you struggle right alongside them through their ups and downs.
Happily, with the father's growing faith and Austin's incredible spirit, the family becomes "unbreakable," finding joy, gratitude, and courage even in the most trying times -- and learning that every day can be the best day of your life!
Kingdom Story Company (the team behind this film that Gv and I are still raving about) and Lionsgate (the studio behind this great title) bring this story to life in a fabulous, quality way.
The father is played by Zachary Levi (whom we loved in this show -- and Gv excitedly recognized as a voice from this, her favorite Disney film) and his mom is played by Patricia Heaton (whom everyone knows from this show, although we loved her even more in this one, so you've got some decent stars to enjoy along with the heartwarming story.
G had lots to say about this movie:
- "The message was conveyed better than most."
- "I was so sympathetic to the dad throughout the entire movie; they did a great job with the depth of the characters."
- "There was so much that was imperfect about all the characters; that made it more real."
- "This movie really rose about the schmaltz that you're usually bombarded with in this type of story."
Gv was also into it, often yelling at the screen and getting fired up over the characters' plights.
I loved how their son -- and even his challenges -- turned out to be such a blessing, and how the whole family (especially the dad) saw things so differently because of it all. It's a story that totally lives out Romans 8:28 and even my I-don't-want-to-feel-emotional-from-a-movie self loved it.
The movie's message of showing the world you're unbreakable, even when the odds are unbelievable, is one that every family should see. Buy tickets today to watch this moving family film in theaters starting February 21!
