I have been anxiously awaiting this one! The Chosen is back for Holy Week, the most pivotal week in human history. Tables are turned. Friends are betrayed. And powerful leaders plot the death of Jesus:
I've grown so attached to this show and continue to love how it draws out the Gospel story over many seasons. If you haven't read my review of season 4 from last year, go check it out, because so many of the things I mention about the series still stands.
With over 250 million viewers (as of 7/27/24), The Chosen is one of the most-watched shows in the world.
In case you're unfamiliar, it's a groundbreaking historical drama based on the
life of Jesus (Jonathan Roumie) seen through the eyes of those
who knew him. Set against the backdrop of Roman oppression in
first-century Israel, the seven-season series shares an authentic
and intimate look at Jesus’ revolutionary life and teachings.
The table is set. The people of Israel welcome Jesus as king while his disciples anticipate his crowning. But—instead of confronting Rome—he turns the tables on the Jewish religious festival. Their power threatened, the country’s religious and political leaders will go to any length to ensure this Passover meal is Jesus’ last.
Shot in a beautiful cinematic format, The Chosen: Last Supper brings the most pivotal week in history to audiences in this special three-part theatrical release.
Part One (episodes 1-2)
releases on March 28:
Part Two (episodes 3-5) releases on April 4:
& Part Three
(episodes 6-8) releases on April 11:
I was able to preview the first episode of Part One and even though I was so hyped up with anticipation, I wasn't at all disappointed.
I feel like each season just gets better and better, and while I was impressed by the quality from way back in season one, I continue to appreciate ways in which the production continues to grow.
I also realized while watching this episode just how much I appreciate the use of so much dialogue straight from the Bible.
I feel completely immersed in the story every time I watch it!
I'm still in the giddy stage of Season 5, where I finished episode one (two times in a row!) and I'm even antsier to have the see the rest - and then binge-watch the entire series from the beginning after that, which I just might do, since I gave my parents this set for Christmas this past year!
