I mentioned this little gift idea in my 5 After 5, Ways to Show Your Spouse Love post the other day.

Even though I had planned to share this idea with you ever since I gave it to G this past year for our anniversary, I realized today that it would be the perfect last-minute gift solution for Valentine's Day.

I even whipped up a free quick printable for you so that all you have to do is grab your jars and go - making this something you can even manage to rustle up in the time it takes your love to walk through the door after calling to say they're on their way home!

First, you'll want to find three smallish containers. Because we had a zillion of G's favorite salsa jars stacked up in the cabinet to tote leftover soup for lunch in, I was able to use three identical jars for this project.

I liked that ours had lids, but you could easily use baskets, little gift bags, glasses, mugs, jars or other containers of various sizes to be your Love Jars.

You don't even have to decorate them, but I knew it wouldn't take me long to slap some fun scrapbook paper on and then add the "L," "G" and "Fun" to the front of each (also from my scrapbook stash).

After your containers are ready, you just need to get your printer to spit out the two pages of printables I'm sharing with you here, cut the ideas into strips, fold them up, and stick them in your jars.

"Make a point to give him 3 compliments today."

The "L" jar is for me and it's full of ways to show G love. The "G" jar has the same ideas, but they're worded for him to show love to me. The third jar is full of easy, on-the-spot-no-plans-needed ideas for fun things to do together.

"Make root beer floats...play cards...dance"

I came up with enough ideas for the "Fun" jar so that you could do 3 things a month. Some ideas relate to other gifts I've given G in the past that we're still working through (like the Year of Fun Gift Box and our favorite game books), but most are generic and, most importantly, extremely frugal.

Feel free to add your own ideas to these jars, though. My printables are just to get you started - and while I may come up with new ways for G and I to show each other love throughout the year, I'm planning to just reprint the same lists out over and over, since they're easy little things we could repeat again and again and still find special.

The plan is to pull from all the jars each week, but without feeling like we have to. We didn't pull a thing this past weekend, since things were so busy with the new rink opening.

So if you're scrambling around trying to come up with a special gift for your sweetheart tonight, this idea might just save your skin.

Or you might like to do like I did and create it as an anniversary gift - or even for your sweetie's birthday or Christmas present.

But regardless of the occasion, this quick, last-minute gift idea will be sure to draw you and your honey-bunny closer by sparking fun times together and providing little reminders of your love for one another!

It's pretty obvious that we really enjoy gifts like this around here - not only do they make our budget happy, but they force us to enjoy the greatest gift of all: time with each other!

  3. This is a great way to remember to do those special things for each other. Life gets so busy, and we often forget to take the time for our spouse. Thanks for the printables! They are all great ideas!

  4. What a great way to show love. And I love the picture of you and your hubby (I'm assuming) on the bike. It is so hard in the middle of the grind of life to take time to show love in special ways. Thanks for the reminder.
