Welcome back to Latticed Learning! This year, we're continuing to learn while we play - repeating many of our favorites from the past while adding in all sorts of new activities as well.
This day's post is devoted to our weekly themes - some weeks have more activities than others, but each lesson will be fun for you to explore with your little one!
Read All About It
Some of our favorite books were featured this week, including:
The Incredible Journey through the Human Body - this book is way too detailed for Gv right now, but it has lots of great illustrations and nifty windows to tunnel through the body on each page, so we just did a picture walk through and talked about what everything was. She loved it, and brought it back out to peruse all week long.
Your Body is an Usborne book, so of course that means it's fabulous. There's good information in this little treasure, but it's all conveyed in a simple manner, making it just right for Gv.
Everyone Poops was given to us by the cousins, who had to find a second copy to keep us away from theirs. Your household might be a little proper for this book, but we're all about bodily functions over here, so this is an obvious hit.
Where is Baby's Belly Button? has been one of Gv's favorites since she was born. Even though she's read it approximately 9,476 times, she still enjoys it.
Brush, Brush, Brush! - If it weren't for this book, I don't know whether Gv would ever release her alligator-grip-jaws long enough for me to get in there and swish around a few times. If she seems reluctant to let me in, I simply have to break out this book and begin to read, "Are your teeth clean & white?"...
Fingers and Toes
See How You Grow
No More Diapers for Ducky!
Skeletons
Human Body
The Foot Book
I Love You Baby from Head to Toe
Pirates Don't Change Diapers

Sing Some Songs
There were a couple fun songs that I stumbled across this week:
Do the Circulation and The Body Machine from this
Several body-related songs on this album, like Move Those Muscles
We watched several of the human body videos here and if you look at the list to the right, you should see a bunch more.
This was also a great week for Magic School Bus episodes, specifically For Lunch, Inside Ralphie, Flexes its Muscles, Works Out and Goes Cellular.
We did several things to correspond to our human body/healthcare/growing up topic this week:
We made our own little arm X-ray, using black construction paper and chalk. I just traced her arm, then drew in some bones, and let Gv shade in some of the surrounding area with the flat side of the chalk. We then dampened a washcloth and dabbed it around that surrounding area, so that it would provide a bit more of an X-ray effect.
We pulled up this fun site and I just let Gv point to whatever caught her eye and then clicked on it to read to her. There's also a little video that matches these guts, but I didn't think it was all that worth showing her.
Gv played doctor with her dolls using this classic kit as well as a stethoscope from my classroom and plenty of band-aids.
After discovering the "websites to visit" page in the back of one of our books this week, we headed over to explore some fun links and learn more about the human body. We snooped around even longer than I'd expected, because Gv kept noticing photos of all sorts of other topics we've covered in past weeks. I can see us visiting this site again and again.
One of the sites we visited used a roller skater to illustrate how the bones and muscles work together to move. That resulted in a request to roller skate...
And what's a good roller-skating session, without some more books?
We again kept things a bit lighter this week, due to all our extra holiday crafts. We repeated some of these ideas, as well as added in a few new ones.
We're also gearing up for Celebrating the Season (click to download your free Advent and Christmas printables), as well as helping our shepherd Hezzie pack for this year's Amazing Journey Around the World (be sure to grab your kit and join in)!
