It's time for another round of 5 After 5!  In case you missed it, last week's list was 5 fun things about your hometown and if you're new to this series, you can read more about it here.

Today I've got my list of 5 to share, as well as next week's topic for you to stew about over the upcoming days.

And if you've posted your own 5 After 5 list on your blog, I've turned this series into a link party - so be sure to get your own 5 things added below (or leave your answers in today's comments if you're not a blogger).  I loved reading everyone's comments from last week and I really can't wait to see what you share today!

List 5 of your favorite musical dance numbers

After my annual Christmas-movie-a-thon ends each year, I'm usually inspired to re-watch many of my other favorite classic movies - which often happen to be musicals.

There are so many that I absolutely adore, but this list isn't meant to highlight the movies themselves, but the spectacular dance numbers that they contain.

How many have you seen?

1.  Step in Time

This entire song is so catchy and fun, but my favorite part of the number is when all the chimney sweeps take over and dance on top of the smoke stacks.

2.  Do-Re-Mi

There's not a ton of dancing in this one, but I think the choreography is nonetheless spot-on.  My favorite parts?  The bikes - and then the end, on the steps, where they're stepping up and down for each of their notes.

That's just the best.

You know what else is the best?  Getting to spend a day re-living the movie in person!

Oh, you know I totally recreated this part of the song around the fountain!

I did not recreate this part, however (but I thought about it!)

3.  Good Morning

Such a fun movie and one that Gv thoroughly enjoyed, as well.

I dare you to keep your feet (or the rest of your body, for that matter) still during this number - Gv and I were totally up and dancing throughout the whole thing (G, however, stayed put.  Too busy grading - although I did see his foot tapping the floor a little bit).

I love a bunch of different parts of this whole thing, but the big finish over the couch might be my favorite:

4.  Let's Say it with Firecrackers

I shared my love of this movie here, but this particular routine is the tops!

I just love his integration of those little popper thingies - so fun!

5.  roughseasceilingdancehatrackpartner

Okay, okay, okay - I know I just broke the rules and squished three routines into one spot, but I can't help it.  Each of these numbers from my all-time favorite movie are just all so fantastic.

Another dance sequence that ends on a couch, this one makes me laugh every time because of how smug the brother-sister duo acted towards the captain, when he suggested they go ahead and dance right away, due to the rough seas (the dancing doesn't start until about 1:30):

This one had Gv quite perplexed the whole time...hopefully she won't be trying this one out around the house.  It's a pretty famous routine:

And then there's this one, which is most likely my favorite of the bunch, if I had to pick just one:

(It's also got a bit of syncopation in it, which my offbeat self totally appreciates!)

I LOVE "Step in Time" (and "Mary Poppins" in general...in fact, JUST last night, I was talking to my daughter about her big final exam project and quoted Mary: "Once begun is half done.")! And I don't want to brag (okay, fine, I do), but when I was working as a hostess at a family restaurant in Kalamazoo, Michigan one summer in college, I actually seated Julie Andrews herself when she stopped in for a tuna melt. True story. Good thing I did not, in fact, realize it was her until after I had seated her or I probably would have been a blubbering idiot and, possibly, started doing the yodeling bit from "The Lonely Goatherd."

Oh. My. Goodness. How COOL to have met Julie Andrews in person like that!! (& glad you didn't blubber or yodel, because that would have been awfully embarrassing...kind of like doing an Edith Ann impression when you meet Lily Tomlin in person...oh, yeah, I went there)
This is so cool! I love Julie Andrews, and those 2 movies are probably in my top 5 favorite movies as well. How awesome to be able to see the places in person! Thanks for sharing :)

Can you even imagine anyone else playing those roles, besides Julie? How fun that they're some of your favorite movies, too! Thanks for stopping by to say hello today and I hope to see you here again soon!
Such perfect choices!! I love all of them except I haven't seen Royal Wedding but I will be fixing that SOON! I love your pictures... and just added something to my bucket list... ;P

Trying to think what dance numbers I'd add... I think there were some really fun ones in Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, but it's been so long since I've seen it that I can't remember a specific song name, and I'm not sure if it was good enough to beat any of the awesome ones here...

Oh, my, I can't wait for you to watch it (Royal Wedding), then! Be sure to tell me when you do! I agree, there were probably some really fun numbers in 7 Brides for 7 Brothers, but I don't think I've watched it since I wrote a paper on Stanley Donen for a college class over 20 years ago...

I just wrote about Holiday Inn. Anything Fred and Ginger, Eleanor Powell in Rosalie, America in West Side Story, I enjoy being a girl in Flowerdrum Song, An American in Paris. So much fun to think about!

I lovedyour post, Lisa! So many great aspects to remember about the movie! Loved the other dance numbers and movies you shared here, too - especially Flowerdrum Song - man, it's been a long time since I've watched that one! Thanks so much for stopping by to say hello today and I hope to see you here again soon!
Cute post, Lisa! I love the movies you've highlighted!
My dad worked for Holiday Inn for years, and that movie was also one of our favorites!
I was parked by you on Party in Your PJ's, and I'm glad to read your post!
Hope you have a blessed day!

How fun that your dad worked for Holiday Inn - if my dad had, I'm sure I'd have thought he worked at the one from the movie! I'm glad you enjoyed reading the post; thanks so much for stopping by to say hello today, Melanie, and I hope to see you here again soon!
I really LOVE all the musical dance numbers you mentioned here! Who doesn't get wowed by Fred Astaire? I love him in Holiday Inn which we watch every New Year's Eve. I also love Danny Kaye and Vera Ellen in White Christmas and the dancing in West Side Story.

I agree, Fred Astaire was just sublime! I spend most of White Christmas marveling at the span of Vera Ellen's waistline! West Side Story definitely has some energetic numbers, too! I enjoyed your list - thanks so much for stopping by to share today!
I have not seen a few of those! I will have to check them out. We also enjoy the dance numbers in "The Happiest Millionaire." My children are especially fond of "Watch Your Footwork."

Oooooh, I have not seen that movie in AGES! Now I need to track it down... Thanks so much for reminding me and for stopping by to say hello today!
Great choices! I would add Gene Kelley and Jerry the Mouse in Anchors Aweigh and Danny Kaye and Vera-Ellen The Best Things Happen when Your Dancing from White Christmas. Thanks for sharing on the #HomeMattersParty - I hope you will join us, next week.

I love both of those dance numbers! (Although I usually spend the entire White Christmas one marveling at Vera Ellen's teeny tiny waistline!
