5 After 5, Soup Edition

It's soup season!  What are your favorite soups to sip on a nippy evening?  Share them here at this week's edition of 5 After 5!

It's time for another round of 5 After 5!  In case you missed it, last week's list was 5 books you're planning to read this fall and if you're new to this series, you can read more about it here - then catch up on all the old editions here.

Today I've got my list of 5 to share, as well as next week's topic for you to stew about over the upcoming days.

And this series is a link party, so be sure to scroll down and join in all the fun with us this week!

List 5 of your favorite soups

Despite the fact that it never seems to get below 75 degrees here - even in the throes of winter, we really like a good cup of soup around here.

In fact, sometimes when my parents come over for a visit, we all head to Sweet Tomatoes just to gorge ourselves on all the different soup choices offered that day (completely ignoring the salad - and you know how much I love salad!)

It's hard to narrow down the choices (what's new!), but here are five of my favorites:

1.  Tomato Soup (with the requisite grilled cheese, of course)

This soup will forever be my favorite of all time.  It is what I crave when I'm feeling puny and is the absolute ultimate in comfort food to me.

And it must always be accompanied by a grilled cheese sandwich (or two) to dip in it!

2.  Cream of Mushroom Soup

But not from a can.  I can actually handle the standard Campbell's for tomato, but the mushroom has to be homemade.

This version is dairy-free, which helps G enjoy it more, too.

3.  Avgolemono Soup

I only discovered this soup a few years ago (well, maybe it's been a decade now, but that still seems like a few years ago, you know?) and it has quickly become one of my favorites.

It's a classic Greek dish and always reminds me a bit of Hollandaise sauce.  Find my recipe here, along with a bunch of other tasty Greek food.

4.  Carrot Onion Soup

I never would have thought of these two things together in a soup, but I created it one day when I was faced with figuring out what to do with a 50-pound bag of onions and a 25-pound of carrots that I needed to whittle down fast.

It's just as delicious as it looks - try the recipe here.

5.  Sweet Potato Lentil Soup

This is another soup created from scraping the pantry shelves.  We like sweet potato and we love lentils, so it only makes sense that we'd find this soup delicious.

Try it yourself - or just read the recipe's backstory - by clicking over here.

6.  Perfect Pumpkin Soup

What?  You didn't actually think I could manage to just keep one of these lists to five, did you?

This soup is quickly zipping to the top of our list of favorites - we've actually eaten it once a week for the past month!

I just posted the recipe to this cup of yumminess - see it yourself here!

For next week:

List 5 of your favorite pumpkin recipes

You already know that soup is going to show up on my list, but what about the others?  Check back next week to see - I can't wait to read yours!

And now, here's this week's link party!  Two other fabulous bloggers have teamed up with me to create lists of five each week and we hope that you'll join us, too!

That's right, every post will be read, pinned and tweeted!

Every Saturday, just stop by one of our three blogs to add your own list of five, then pop over and read as many other posts as you're able to each week - treat it like a true party and really mix it up and mingle with our fun little community!

The rules are simple:  just write your own list following the prompt each week (feel free to interpret it loosely - or in a unique way!), follow each of the three hosts on the social media channel of your choice, and then get into the spirit of the party by grabbing your favorite beverage or snack and reading the lists of the other party-goers.

I just love soup - it's not quite up there with cheese, but I've not really found a soup I don't like!
Ill have to try that Greek one. I have never heard of it!

I hope you enjoy the soup as much as we do, Gabrielle! I remember thinking, "wow, have I ever been missing something" when I first had it!
These look great. It's getting quite cold here and I could definitely do with a bowl of soup right now!

It's not getting cold here at all, but we've still been chugging down the soup this past month! Hope to see you here again soon, Lesley!

It's a really delicious soup, so I hope you have the chance to try it! Thanks for stopping by to say hello today, Helen!
Those soups look lovely. I have one soup which my mum, 75, makes, pumpkin and chicken soup. She had me put it on my blog which I love.

Oooh, pumpkin & chicken sounds really interesting and I bet it's delicious! I'll have to go check it out. So lovely seeing you here, Maria!
My family loves hot soup, rolls, and pickles this time of year!

Okay, I have to say that I'm laughing at your comment, because soup & rolls? Makes total sense, but then you throw pickles in there... (& I love pickles, but they just made me laugh all lumped in that list with the other two things - sing it now with me: "One of these things, is not like the other...")
I love soup too! The first three you mentioned are favorites! Love tomato soup, regular of tomato basil. Mushroom soup, homemade definitely, so delish. I don't get it often, I'm the only one in my family that eats mushrooms. So sad, eh? And Avgolemono is so good. When I worked in a restaurant that was one of our customers favorites, and lucky for me the chef made it every few weeks! Delish.

I can't wait to see the recipe for your perfect pumpkin soup, it looks so good!

Woo-hoo, fellow soup-lover! I actually had to make a batch of tomato soup for dinner tonight - I'd seen that photo so much while linking it up last week, I couldn't escape it in my dreams! Lovely seeing you here, Nikki!
