Friday Frivolity - Favorite Cakes

It's time for this week's edition of Friday Frivolity - the blog party for all things fun, funny, hopeful & happy!

Just wait until you see what we dug up for this week's theme...

At last week's party, we shared our favorite book series.

This week -- because it's my birthday -- we're sharing our favorite cakes!

1. Cheesecake

I know, it's not technically a cake at all, but it does have "cake" in its name, so I decided that totally counts. I am not a super-desserty person, but I definitely love me some cheesecake and am constantly coming up with delicious and different spins on the dish.

In fact, some of my most popular posts have been about cheesecake:

Low-Sugar, Simple Strawberry Cheesecake

Bold Blueberry Cheesecake

Breathtaking Baklava Cheesecake

Eggnog Cheesecake

2. Homemade Birthday Cake

Super-clever skating cake my friend made for her daughter

I have had fun the past few years making Gv's birthday cakes not only look fun and match the party theme, but also be way healthier than a typical cake.

No one missed the sugar and thought these were "normal" Peg + Cat cakes

G, Gv and I still enjoy the version I made for her first birthday (when I was still trying to keep the sugar super-low since she was a baby), but since most people are not as low-sugar as we are on a daily basis, I've worked on the recipe a bit and will be sticking with the crowd-pleasing recipe that I used when she turned 4.

3. Ice Cream Cake

This has been one of my birthday requests since I was little and it usually counted as one of my presents since these cakes were always so pricey (especially compared to homemade!)

I was still dreaming about this year's ice cream cake, but then I found a note my one-year-younger self had written last year which said: "Whatever you do, do not ask for an ice cream cake again this year, because all those chemicals made you feel way queasy last year!"

There are some things (like ice cream cake or McDonald's) that my poor little innards just can't handle anymore...

4. Publix Cake

I'd like to say that this is a really odd expression I have on my face here, but no, it's not. This is probably what I look like 99.9% of the time when I'm laughing. And I laugh approximately 78.9% of the time, so this is quite possibly what I look like at any given moment. Yup.

Luckily, we live down here in the land of Publix, which means that we have easy access to some of the most delicious pre-made cake out there and that's exactly what I enjoyed far too much of this go-around.

5. Monster-Sized Warehouse Store Cake

The taste doesn't quite hold up to the level of a Publix cake, but it's close enough when there's no way you're going to bake to feed a bazillion people for something like your wedding and don't have a bazillion dollars to go to Publix (which isn't especially pricey, but still managed to be outside our budget then)!

Now time for the new stuff!
