5 After 5, Christmas Traditions

Our Christmas traditions continue to evolve, but these five are some of my favorites!

It's time for another round of 5 After 5!  In case you missed it, last week's list was favorite Christmas goodies and if you're new to this series, you can read more about it here - then catch up on all the old editions here.

Today I've got my list of 5 to share, as well as next week's topic for you to stew about over the upcoming days.

And this series is a link party, so be sure to scroll down and join in all the fun with us this week!

List 5 of your favorite Christmas traditions

I've shared some of these before and some are new, but these five things are sure to make my holidays merrier:

1.  Christmas Abroad

Le sigh. Christmas markets like this are one of the things I miss most during the holidays. Maybe one day we won't be on such a thread-thin budget and we can introduce holiday travel to Gv!

When I was still in the classroom, I took full advantage of the time off school and rock-bottom airfares during winter break to experience how the rest of the world celebrates Christmas.

This tradition really bummed my parents out, but it's really pretty awesome to sit back and think about all the places I've been for Christmas and New Year's!

2.  Christmas Movies

I have an extremely strict Christmas movie-watching format that I must stick to every year.

I always start with Holiday Inn (the black and white version, because then I watch the colorized version again later in the month) and end with Love Actually with G on Christmas Eve (although the last few years, we've fallen asleep and had to finish it the next day!)

What else is on my list? Check out 5 After 5 Christmas Movies Edition or any of the days of Celebrating the Season to find out!

3.  The Shepherd on the Search

This just came out this year and so I guess technically it's not yet a tradition, but I already know that we will totally be doing this year after year!

In case you didn't read about it here already, click on over to The Shepherd on the Search's Amazing Journey Around the World to find out how awesome this really is.

4.  Church

Even better is the combination of #4 and #1 - nothing like a Christmas service in one of the top cathedrals in the world!

Lots and lots of church.  We just can't get enough of it this time of year!

5.  Christmas Eve Living Room Picnic

We totally treat ourselves to a European picnic for our Christmas Eve dinner and regardless of whether we can light it or not, we eat it in front of the fireplace.

(I think we've only had a fire twice in the decade I've lived in this house. Usually we're still traipsing around on Christmas Eve and Day in tank tops and sandals and complaining about how it doesn't feel like Christmas...)

Fancy (& usually stinky!) cheeses, imported sausages and other meats, olives, homemade bread, some Prosecco, this pate and then whatever dessert we haven't yet gobbled up is spread out for us to binge on until Santa comes down the chimney.

Mmmm...prosciutto...I can almost taste you now!

For next week:

List 5 of your favorite Christmas movies

I listed my 5 favorites last year, but the next 5 in line deserve just as much of a mention.  See which ones make my list - I can't wait to read yours!

And now, here's this week's link party!  Two other fabulous bloggers have teamed up with me to create lists of five each week and we hope that you'll join us, too!

That's right, every post will be read, pinned and tweeted!

Every Saturday, just stop by one of our three blogs to add your own list of five, then pop over and read as many other posts as you're able to each week - treat it like a true party and really mix it up and mingle with our fun little community!

The rules are simple:  just write your own list following the prompt each week (feel free to interpret it loosely - or in a unique way!), follow each of the three hosts on the social media channel of your choice, and then get into the spirit of the party by grabbing your favorite beverage or snack and reading the lists of the other party-goers.
