We really enjoy time spent each morning with one of our storybook Bibles and now this has joined our collection:
We originally started off with two Bibles that we'd read from each day during our Latticed Learning time. We'd read the same story each day for a week, sometimes alternating books between the days and sometimes reading from both at one sitting.
Then we added a couple of others to our collection and began reading the same story from a different book each day.
Then our collection grew even larger than seven and yet Gv doesn't want to part with a single one of them, so we read the same story from several books each day and now have an entire bookshelf full of storybook Bibles.
Which just got heavier.
Because she loves this one, too.
I wasn't especially excited about this book when it arrived.
There was nothing wrong with it -- it included colorful illustrations, appropriate amounts of text on each page, and even had a little interactive blurb at the end of each story.
It just didn't draw me in the way others with "cutesy" pictures or rhyming text did.
But Gv loved it.
Maybe it was the more realistic drawings or just the fact that she loves hearing the same Bible story presented in different ways, but she insisted this one join the others on her groaning bedside bookshelf.
And as we've read it more, I've begun to appreciate it more.
The text makes good use of vivid verbs and unusual adjectives, which the teacher in me knows is wonderful for growing vocabularies.
The little "treasure map" box at the end of each story provides one extra, interesting, related fact, along with an appropriate Bible verse.
I also love that these stories can be read in 5 minutes, because sometimes it's just nice to know you can grab a book and be done with it in a set length of time.
And besides containing 30 of the most familiar Bible stories you'll want to share with your child, the final two pages speak of how the adventure continues...until Jesus returns. This ending scroll lists several clues from the Bible about Jesus' return from heaven.
I kind of feel like choosing a children's Bible has a lot to do with personality. Your child might prefer themes centered around cartoons, or princesses, or rich, beautiful illustrations, or rhyming text -- or maybe your child is like Gv, and loves them all!
And it's got to be a good thing, if your daughter just can't get enough of reading the Bible, right?
Get your own copy here of this fine book and get ready to grab it at bedtime, morning time, any time you want to fit a little extra 5-minute Bible story into your child's day!
Does your child like reading different versions of the same story, like Gv does? I'd love to hear! Either leave a comment below or email me at lisahealy (at) outlook (dot) com.

This hardcover book is larger than most. It's about the same size as a piece of copy paper, has a padded cover and catchy foil lettering. |

See? Nothing wrong with this at all, just seemed a little more "old-timey" than others we have, which I didn't like as much. |
