Welcome back to Latticed Learning! This year, we're continuing to learn while we play - repeating many of our favorites from the past while adding in all sorts of new activities as well.

This day's post is devoted to our weekly themes - some weeks have more activities than others, but each lesson will be fun for you to explore with your little one!

Read All About It

We're dog people here, so you'll see a big focus on dogs in this list. We do have some great cat books (& even one on parrots) that we love, so hopefully those of you with other pets will find something you like, too. We actually also read several books on chores and responsibility this week, but I highlighted the main one that's our favorite.

We read several books focusing on chores, but our favorite is Wishy-Washy Day because we get to say "wishy-washy wishy-washy!" at the end.

You can't talk about dogs without reading Go, Dog. Go!

Doggone Dogs! has silly illustrations, great rhyming verse, and counts up to and down from ten:

It's always a good thing when the adult reading the book enjoys it, too. Max, the Bad-Talking Parrot had me chuckling as I turned each page:

Sing Some Songs

I found a load of chore and pet-related songs on my ipod this week, which was really fun!

I talked about my love of Disney songs here, but Whistle While You Work, The Work Song, Heigh-Ho, The Siamese Cat Song, and Ev'rybody Wants to be a Cat are just perfect for this week's themes!

The jazzy Rag Mop is perfect to throw on when you're doing chores, as well as anything else from the album I wrote about here.

Cover the topics of pets and chores while listening to Walkin' the Dog from this Grammy-winning album.

Is your favorite dog breed mentioned in the song on this album? Mine is, and it's a pretty unique one. My Flea Has Dogs offers a different take on your standard pooch tune.
