At last week's party, we shared some of our favorite short cuts to this doing life thing.
This week, we're sharing some memorable life moments that have happened lately...kind of like an extended Project Snapshot post!
1. Cold weather!
After not even getting to wear a sweater and jeans one single day last "winter," we have been super-excited to experience a couple of honest-to-goodness, (slightly) below-freezing moments so far this year.
Of course, it's still a crazy Florida winter, which means we're dressed like this one day, and then back to shorts and tank tops the next!
2. Lichen learning
Believe it or not, I can identify at least eight different types of lichen on these two sticks! I learned just as much as Gv this day! |
About a year ago, I learned that this preserve also offered "Family Fun Day" once a month, but I wasn't interested in driving out there twice in one week just for more of the same.
However, a friend spoke with someone who'd been attending this program and learned that it's a totally different experience, so we went to check it out for the first time last month.
It was so cool! The subject was lichen and we watched a video, heard a little talk, then the kids got all geared-up before heading outdoors to collect their own lichen specimens to examine under the microscope inside.
We will definitely be attending these from now on!
3. A new arrival
For those of you not accustomed to reading the writing of young children, "Sprs Apil" really means "Surprise April!" |
Gv insisted that we throw a welcome party and made signs for the walls, the dog crate and the dog's new collar in preparation for her arrival.
This is April's new collar, to which Gv affixed a name tag reading "Gemstone," which is the name that Gv has given to the dog. |
4. Doggie school
All good dog instructors need to be wearing princess dresses and homemade crowns (that look more like a chef's toque, amIright?) |
Our dog came trained (it's pretty awesome) but that hasn't stopped Gv from educating her even further in the rules for canines in the Healy House.
I took a video the other night to share with you, but it was late at night and I obviously needed to go to bed because the lighting was so poor, you couldn't really see a thing.
The gist of it was that Gv was at her blackboard, drawing a picture of April with her mouth open (she gets very exuberant when greeting us and giving us doggie kisses) with the "no" circle-with-a-line-through-it symbol on top of it and Gv instructing April in the proper way to show us love.
The best part of the video was the juxtaposition of how enthusiastic Gv was in her instruction with the pure look of boredom on the face of the dog.
5. Good food and good friends
I'm all about food pictures (half our trip photos are always of our meals) so of course I had to take a picture of this yumminess:
My mofongo rewlleno meal, which was mofo-delicious! |
Now time for the new stuff!
