At last week's party, we shared our favorite museums around the world.
This week brings us Don't Fry Day, so we're sharing our best tips on how to stay safe in the sun.
Also, I'm going to be working on some special projects this summer, so this will be the last Friday Frivolity party (or even a regular post!) for a couple of months. But don't worry, we'll be back August 2nd with all the fun, so go ahead and mark your calendars now!
You can stop back by here again next week to see which post I chose for my feature -- and be sure sign up for all the blog updates here, in case I pop back over the next few weeks with a surprise post!
Now, on to the sun-safe tips:
1. Sunblock
I can't stand the stuff, but nevertheless will slather it on if there's any chance that my sun-magnet hair will be bringing the rays to my freckled skin like a homing beacon.
I don't recommend using any of the kinds full of nasty chemicals. We usually bite the bullet and get this stuff.
2. Long Sleeves and Long Pants
We do a lot of hiking in the summer, but despite the heat, we're always all clad in long sleeves and long pants. Part of the reason for this is to keep the bugs away, but an equally important reason is to keep the sun away (and then we can avoid that nasty sunblock!).
It works and honestly, sometimes I feel like it helps keep me cooler than if my skin were exposed. I usually wear my shirt like this and my zip-off pants like this, which are both very cool.
3. Hat
I hate having things on my head, but I'd rather wear a big, floppy hat than deal with sunscreen, so often I'll sport this beauty -- or I'll wear this if I'm heading off on a hike.
4. Sunglasses
I'll admit, I don't wear these as often as I should, but I never feel like I can see as well when the world is so dim.
But I'm trying to do better and my glasses came with some of those clip-on jobber-dos, so I usually have no excuse.
It's easier to put them on when I've got my contacts in, because I just grab my shades that look like this that I got from the dollar store (they even have UV protection, too!)
5. Stay in the Shade
I consider shade-standing a competitive sport -- I'll cross the street to walk in the shade, move to crouch under the equipment at a playground if there aren't enough trees, and will basically just do anything else to stay out of the sun, no matter how dork-like I look!
It gives people a chuckle to see my shade-following antics, but I'm usually cooler and more sun-protected than they are, so the laugh's on them!
Now time for the new stuff!
